why follow

i ask this as i've seen several across other forums hit the follow button to follow me.......unsure on why they do as i haven't replied to ny of their post or threads that i can recall? some i do know thru pm's as being likeminded, but many others i have no clue? i've been pm'd across many other firearm forums for AR related questions and have conversed via fone calls to help remedy their issue(s) as i go about solving them in a different direction than most do. i do tell then i'm no expert, only give replies about what i've had. other than that i have no clue about some of the newer peeps?

I always thought the 'Follow' button was to follow that thread rather than the author. Whenever I see a new thread that interests me and want to be sure I don't miss a post in it or lose track of it, I'll chose the 'follow' button and every day if there is a reply to that thread, I get an email notification of the new reply. Unfortunately I don't/can't get online to the forum everyday, so it's really likely I'll lose track of one or simply miss a reply.

that's a choice also along with following a member or members.

Yep, I caught that above back a few days ago, but I don't always have the time on the forum to track every new/updated thread on the forum. It's always been faster for me to mark the 'follow' on page 1 of the thread so that I get that email notice of just those threads. Prolly not the best way to cover all bases, but works for me. Thanks y'all.
