The North American Rescue Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) is the official tourniquet of the U.S. Army.

Laboratory tested and combat proven, this true, one-handed tourniquet has been proven to be 100% effective by the U.S. Army's Institute of Surgical Research.

The Gen 7 features a durable windlass system with patented free-moving internal band provides true, circumferential pressure to the extremity. A unique, dual securing system avoids the use of screws and clips that can be difficult to operate under survival stress or where fine motor skills are compromised.

I have several of these in my truck, range bags, and house. Combined with blood stopper bandages they have saved many lives. Fortunately I have never had to use one. I have noticed many police officers carrying them on their vests or belt. I read a story recently of an officer who used a CAT to save his own life after being shot in the femoral artery. If you are around firearms, it is a good idea to have gunshot trauma first aid kits available, and have some training in using it.

When I was a Cop they issued a CAT and Izzy bandages. I carried both on my belt. The days of Officer Friendly are gone. That being said Patrol Guys dressed like SWAT is a mistake.

Our agency FINALLY issued tourniquets. Most of us had already bought our own. While on duty, I carry one on my belt and keep a trauma kit in my trunk.

Off duty, I don't carry one but I do have a trauma kit in my trunk of my car and on reare occasion I will carry that.
