Dry fire

Hello, new to the 9mm shield ez family. Should I be able to dry fire using a laser target bullet, AND the mag in empty. Currently I have to rerack after every trigger pull. Does not make for an enjoyable practice session.

In relation, this is not an issue with my bodyguard 380.

Thanks all.

If you are talking about a bore sighting lazer then no. I dont know about a lazer practice round. I would assume you could. But since no actual firing takes place then you will have to rack it each time. Sorry i can't be more help but i don't do much fry firing. That's a whole thread in itself. Some say it don't hurt and some say it does. I would think it wouldn't with a snap cap or similiar

Hello!

Welcome to the forum from the Wild Wild Upper Midwest. Glad you found us.

I have found laser training useful for everything except recoil management. Live fire is the only way to really practice getting over the "flinch".

Yes, with striker fired pistols you must rack the slide between shots. You can leave a magazine inside the grip. Just don't rack the slide all the way. Rack it just enough to reset the striker. I use this technique to practice mag changes/reloads.

Hammer fired double action semi-auto pistols can fire just from the trigger pull. This is a little more convenient but leaves you practicing with the heavier trigger pull all the time, unless you cock the hammer yourself. Sometimes I do this with my 1911 pistols. I'll cock the hammer rather than rack the slide.

I have not updated my "basement laser range" thread for a while, but you might find some useful information there. Here's the link...

I like the G-Sight laser cartridge systems. Their free phone app will work with almost any laser cartridge. I also have the MantisX system. It gives handy feedback on muzzle variance during your trigger pull. I'm still trying to be consistent and NOT upset my sight picture when pulling the trigger.

All the best to you. Perfect practice makes perfect. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
