Should I Put Optics on My 1911 (or Not)?

And my post stated that is if I were ever going to purchase another 1911 style .45 (way down on the purchase order list), I would get one that is optic ready. I don't even carry a .45 for EDC any more. In fact, the last .45 I used to carry for EDC was not even a 1911 style pistol. I used to EDC my SA XDs .45, which is not optic cut. My first post was my opinion about the Mike H. OP topic. = Fact

I never told you anything about not posting meme's. = Fact

And my last post (the guy in the hospital bed ) had nothing to do about optics on an 1911. = Fact

Nothing wrong with cutting slide for optic. Use one if you like use irons if you like. As innovative as John Browning was, if optics existed at the time he probably would have cut the frame for them. The real question is why the hell don’t you cut the high power for optics!

FN/Browning didn't because of the obvious.

But, Girsan has several of their BHP clones cut for optics.
 
I really tried to like optics on my pistols and rifles, I mean after spending that type of money on the optics, red dots on my 1911, (have several from over the years) and a red dot on my new fangled AR platform, I am very late 60s with the aging eyes but my eye doc put me into some rigid gas permeable contacts and wow! what a difference, though still went back to iron sights on pistol and an old Leopold scope on my rifle, a lot more comfortable for me.

It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

I do think there is a place for optics … but I’ve spent so many years and sent countless thousands…maybe hundreds of thousands…of rounds down range…while focusing on my sights that honestly the technique of just looking at a dot on a target is at times, a new trick for this old dog.

The only red dot I own is on my AR.

As to the first part of your comments. One of the reasons I recommend dots for CWP pistols is the people who wear glasses all the time is you can still see the dot. If you are in an adverse social encounter and their glasses are twenty feet away after skidding across the street is the dot that was a nice clear 2 MOA dot while they were wear their glasses is now a 5 MOA fuzzy dot. Well gee put the fuzzy dot center mass and pull the trigger until the problem goes away. If your glasses are 'gone' then there really isn't anyway you're going to be able see the front sight, but you can see the fuzzy dot. As to the point shooting if the target fills the window the odds are you are going to hit the target you want to regardless of whether the dot is there or not. Before I leave the house as I am putting on my beyond the mailbox clothing one of the things I do after the press check is look at the dot for roughly thirty seconds to see if it blinks. If it blinks it gets a new battery. Also, because the batteries are so cheap on Amazon, I change them out the same time I change out the batteries in the smoke detectors. Gee $12 buck for 10 batteries is so expensive that I can't change them. I don't care if the manufacturer says they will last umptidump thousand hours. Change the batteries. Also don't rack your slide the way some internet commandos do by slamming the thing against the range table like you are beating something to death. (Sorry rant mode off)
However, regardless all that I've said it's your choice to dot or not.
As to the second part you might want to look at the SA Ronin, and I believe they make a Commander sized 1911 that will take dots.

Same age Brother and I just put a pair of Cheaters on and the front sight is sharp and the target fuzzy as it is supposed to be... As for the carry, still irons, for now but it is a plastic 9mm anyway so optics a thought with a new slide.
