He wrote a book on gunfighting: "No Second Place Winner"
He championed the development of the S&W Model 19, probably the greatest police pistol ever.
My father was the first deputy in Genesee County to get one. They had to get their own back then.
I was issued a model 66 - a stainless M19 - until they replaced it with a SIG P226.

Excuse me, Bill Jordan wrote that book and also was the one who kept after S&W to make the model 19 in .357magnum……

I'm about a third of the way through Unrepentant Sinner, have read No Second Place Winners and G. Gordon Liddy's autobiography, Will. Love reading about these true stories of an era between the 30's and the 60's. First time poster, just signed up after listening to review of the Chapman Stance. I shoot revolvers weekly.

Askins' autobiography is full of "gunfight" stories that would land him in prison today. And maybe then.
Bill Jordan said of him "Sometimes a man starts to enjoy killing too much".

Different times

I’m old enough to have experienced the days it wasn’t uncommon to take a crook to the ER to get his head stitched up from a whack with a maglight or baton before we took them to jail. While that wasn’t as dramatic as some of the Gunfight stories of the 1930’s it’s sure frowned on today.

That said whem uiu SME tinto LE even in the 89’s and early 90’s you knew and it it was expected you were gonna fight a couple times a week.

Peolme today want tidy results and are under a false illusion that de-escalation is always 100% soft words and it’s not use enouhh physical force early on and it generally doesn’t get to a shooting or a viral video of what sounds like a cop pleading “stop stop please stop” 20 times

Welcome to the forum from the Wild Wild Upper Midwest. I'm glad you joined us. I don't shoot revolvers often enough. I have only three. I hope you like this community. There's been lots of good information and instruction shared with this old noob, plus a lot of silliness and jockularity. We like to have serious fun while learning and training. :p

Thank you for your indulgence,

Remember “verbal Judo”…guaranteed to stop every fight? What a waste of money and time.

I liked the Verbal Judo classes. They taught us a "secret phrase" for when you were done dancing around. When you said IT the other Officers knew it was "pig pile" time. Besides you could articulate how you tried to talk the asshat down but he just wouldnt comply....
