Yeah we are not much of a bowl/back country crew.If you come out this way be careful about avalanches.
It's fairly common for Minnesotans to get in trouble in them either on snowmachines or back country skiing.
Resorts like Big Sky & grand Targhee are generally safe if you stay within the defined boundaries.
Also, it's not uncommon for folks to get caught in snow wells.
Yeah I have to specify downhill skiing mostly be because people assume you're talking about cross country skiing otherwiseI've only skied downhill as it's way easier than uphill. Never skied that far north, only crested butte and a few in NM.
Slopes were great when I went in 88 or 89. Wind chill wasn't fun as most of the time i ski w/o a jacket, but not there. Jeans and a long sleeve usually. Have fun and hope the snow is deep (base)!Yeah I have to specify downhill skiing mostly be because people assume you're talking about cross country skiing otherwise
My wife and I are taking a 2 week trip through Colorado later this summer/fall. Crested Butte is on the list![]()
I'm 61 as well.I hate powder, well deep powder skiing, but love moguls and going fast. Coming up on 61 i might rethink that! Might stick with water skiing instead?

25 yrs ago was last I went skiing. Mom was a ski instructor growing up. Snow for me is now just during an elk hunt.Anyone here do any mountain skiing?
I've done Colorado. Thinking of checking out Big Sky Montana and/or even Grand Targhee in Wyoming.
Any first hand experience?
Skiing in Minnesota is ok, but nothing compares to the real mountains!
I resemble that remark!!!I am content with trying to stand up in the shower without falling on my posterior.
Yeah we are not much of a bowl/back country crew.
I have lots of friends that snowmobile out in the mountains. I have yet to try it. We have such a great trail network up here. I stick to the trails.
Thanks for the tips!
