Hahaha Ive been saying THAT for years.
I suggest each day we should assess the likelihood and level of threat around us. If its high of course we should try to avoid the area but there will always times when threats appear without warning. The days of 3 rounds in 3 seconds at 3 yards are over; as are the days of 5 shot revolvers and pocket pistols as a primary carry. Many do not like that and for them, their situations may be different BUT today a trip to the grocery store can turn "zippy" pretty fast.

If it's like most movies that have cities that are always destroyed or attacked or bombed I'm in good shape where I live! Places NOT to live are NYC, LA, Chicago, SF and Miami. Im a good k miles or more away from any of those!

Drop the first few with a couple shots and you wont need more. Folks dont tend to keep coming when their buds go down instantly.

With my GX4 compact, it has 11 round mag, with one up the tube…makes it 12 rounds, but I do carry 2-13 round mags for the just in case moment

Ordinarily I would agree with your premise, @KillerFord1977, however, should you shoot anything but the leader (small group), this may not work so well. I've been down the shooting reviews twice in my career, and all sorts of things that are discussed, seldom happened. Just my opinion...

Perhaps we can agree that its all about LOCATION and MOTIVATION. Sure the street mugger may run when faced with a couple shots in his direction or if his buddy gets shot, (maybe); but more motivated attackers such as pissed off gangs are not so easily turned by seeing one of their own go down.
Most of our lifestyles will never take us into those gang zones but on occasion we may find ourselves in the wrong place. Perhaps it is because we had an appointment at some city office or we were visiting an historical site or maybe because we got lost from a construction detour.
Having more ammo and mags just seems prudent. Its like having a full tank of gas when you only need to run down the street, its not a bad thing. If youre fixated on small pocket pistols then perhaps you might want to carry more than one...
I would also add that experts on a square range facing paper targets often find a different experience when facing incoming rounds. Suddenly shooting fundamentals are gone. No more well practiced stance. No more front sight focus. No more perfect trigger squeeze. They are all replaced by high volume shooting

SPeed, power, accuracy determine the outcome. My 1911 .45acp will provide the power, it is up to me to provide speed and accuracy. I prefer to focus on marksmanship vs. Magazine capacity. Like Jeff Cooper said, how often do you intend to miss?
For right now I am confident with a 1911 and two reloads. But if my world goes all Mogadishu I will bring out the battle rifle and an irritable disposition.
With all that said if I were still working the street I would go loaded for bear.

More magazine capacity is never a bad thing …. Unless your in water over your head or on fire.
Disclaimer: I’ve never been on fire, in the water with gun and ammo over my head or even been in a gunfight. However, I have given a lot of thought to the topic.
Capacity gives me options.
That said, let’s all be honest. It is not about shooting more. It is about manipulating less.
If I have a 1911 and I have shot 3-4 rounds and there is a pause in the engagement I’m in, I am likely going to be thinking about how many shots did I get off and should I be reloading? That puts me out of the fight and breaks any concentration I have.
OTOH, If I am running a gun that has an 15+ round capacity then after 3-5 shots I am not too worried about it and I can focus on important things like finding an exit or continuing the fight if the threat or threats have not been effectively dealt with.
There is no optimal equipment for every scenario. Pick your load out based on what you are most likely going to encounter or expect to engage with.
Let’s all stay safe out there and keep your head on a swivel.

In our courses we taught doing a retention reload during a pause, revolvers included, regardless of capacity. A full gun is always desirable. (Unless you are on fire)

I don't care how good a shot you are, if you can hit a dime at a 1000 yards with a 25 auto while jumping out of a plane. it never hurts to have extra ammo and mags. Most likely you'll never need one round, but one never knows what life brings. Better to have more than needed than not enough.

Everything I carry has 18-20 rd capacity. For me if I ever find myself in that situation-the chances of which are practically nil-and I decide to engage, I’m going to be focused on getting myself into a position to make high percentage shots, I’m not going to be slinging shots long distance. If I’m at bad breath distance, I like my odds.
