Home Defense Basics: A Beginner's Guide

Low light classes are very beneficial.
My only concern is someone making it upstairs before the 4 legged flea bags wake me up. I do have one dog that is pretty good about alerting to inordinate noises downstairs. Although he has awaken me because ice crashed down into an empty bin in the freezer, I always positively reinforce his waking me up.

90% of my household lighting is smart bulbs. In the app, I have a group set up that with a single click, I can turn on all of the downstairs lighting.

There is a little pop out at the top of the stairs that I fortified with 3/8" plate steel in case I need a "safer" place to shoot from. I pulled the flooring back, removed the plywood floor, and had a 5' X 5' steel plate installed so I cannot be shot through the floor from below. I also replaced the drywall with 4' X 4' peices of steel as well giving me a nice little perch to disallow anyone from making it up the stairs.

Decades ago I was the victim of a home invasion robbery. Although some consider me paranoid, I decided I would never be a victim inside of my own home ever again. Furthermore, unless I am asleep or in the shower, I always have my trusty Model 457 hanging on my side.

Its not being paranoid, its being a realist. No different than folks having a panic room or other such stuff

A friend of mine was in the shower and came out to start work from his home office and found a robber had come in and taken his laptop and jewelry feom the master bedroom. He was in the master bath showering.
He reinforced his doors and carried in the shower from then on.
