New Digital Surveillance Tools Threaten Gun Owner Privacy

Just my opinion, but, Tucson is the liberal menace of AZ, and as such want cameras all over the place.... The idea behind the thinking is we don't need to hire as many officers for patrol.

I don't have anything against the use of tools to do a job, but when the tool becomes the official...
 
More, and here’s a tidbit from the article…seems like some serious 4th Amendment issues…

“In Georgia alone (Flock’s home state), at least 20 law enforcement officials have been arrested or charged for abusing the technology, and there are more than 50 known cases in this vein nationwide, which is likely just the tip of the iceberg. Police officers in particular cannot seem to stop themselves from using Flock camera technology to stalk or spy on women, whether those women are wives and girlfriends, exes, or merely targets of male obsession who barely even know the officers constantly tracking their movements.”

Hi,

I think the movie "Mercy" is a fairly accurate window into where all of this AI survialence could be headed. The AI judge is also jury and executioner.


The real scary thing about this movie is the underlying message that the AI can learn compassion, empathy, and bend the rules according its "gut instinct". I hope audiences realize the indoctrination that goes along with the entertainment. It is an entertaining sci-fi movie but it wants you to fall in love with the AI.

I think it’s more about the money/profits on the table than the entertainment, though I do enjoy a good SciFi/Sci True story. Then again, I’m old enough and was taught very well how to analyze input to outcome and apply critical thinking.

Most recent example is META being found liable for manipulating very young youth. Not that parents couldn’t have prevented some of that, but META’s founders knew enough of those parents wouldn’t care.
 
When I was in high school we studied the use of propaganda to affect people's opinions. Do they still teach such things in school or do they just use it as a teaching tool.

Yeah, pretty much. My kids made it through K - 12 just under the wire of purple haired freaks teaching our kids, but just barely. Freakism was fully rooted by the time my youngest got to college. He dropped out.

By the time my youngest hit about 5th grade, they started pushing "Acceptance Day". That was an entire day where it was explained to the children that some families have two mommies, or two daddies, and that it is okay. They even had same sex parents come in to answer questions and to demonstrate their complete normalcy.

I "opted" my child out of "Acceptance Day" and promptly received a letter brought home by my son that stated something to the effect "all "Acceptance Day" abscences will be unexcused unless a doctor's note is provided".

I stopped by a local church to chat with the pastor for guidance. Being all of this gender confusion was a relatively new reality, he didn't have any real advice on how best to handle the situation.

Being the subtle, calm, cool, and collected person that I am, I attended "Acceptance Day" with my son with Holy Bible in hand to offer a counterpoint to the children. Well, let's just say that was the first time I was arrested on an elementary school campus. 🤣

More. In this instance, a Congressman was stopped by police in his driveway because his vehicle registration had expired…reported by a flock camera. Anybody else think full time electronic surveillance on entire populations to ensure a $72 vehicle registration is current is government overreach? Especially when the daily argument is that police only use the flock cameras when searching for a suspect (allegedly AFTER) a crime has been committed? Looks like they’re starting to be used as flimsy “probable cause” to initiate traffic stops…

I had a client on work release from the county jail. One day he walked off.

In a matter of a few hours the SO stormed his parents house, demanding to know his whereabouts.
The deputies admitted to following the family all day with ALPR cameras, believing they had picked him up.
Turns out, the family had no idea he walked away. They were pissed that the SO thought they were involved and that they searched their property for their son.

Seems like old fashioned police work may have been enough. Reasonable to think he may have gone to family home. Send a unit or two to question family (not storm the house; perhaps knock on door and ask questions?). Likely same outcome. Not sure how surveillance of family with cameras was going to help - which is probably why they didn’t get a warrant to search!

You would think old fashioned work would have been enough. They waited until the adult daughter came over that afternoon (the son walked off in the morning) then they came lights blazing and ARs deployed to the house and straight up told them they surveilled them all day.
And yes, no warrant to search the property.
 
Tidbits that might help making a judgment on this story: What was he in jail for, was his parents home also his legal residence, and lastly did the parents consent to the search.

Felony DUI, his address was his parents (camper out back), and h*ll no, his parents didn’t consent to any search.

His parents told the SO their son was in jail, and they (the SO) must have made a mistake.
The SO didn’t take their answer as sufficient and proceeded to search the house and property.

No joy.

Their son was not there.
