Taming the HellCat

Last trip to the range was to try out the Herrington Arms HellCat comp I installed and to set the Monstrum Tactical ECR optic. The ECR is their fully enclosed red dot optic. I have several of their optic on handguns and LPVO on long guns and I have never had a problem with them. I also have Vortex optics on handguns and long guns. The glass on the Vortex optics is a little clearer but not enough to pay 2-3 times more the price. Also Monstrum has a lifetime warranty on their optics. The arthritis is progressing a lot quicker in my hands than I thought it would. And that makes getting a good grip on a handgun a lot tougher. I went from drawing and putting 2 rds center mass in a little over to 1.5 seconds on a good day to 2.5 seconds being my fastest now. So that is why I went to a compensator. I’ve never been one to hang stuff on a gun because it looked cool. Also installed a gas pedal. The comp and gas pedal helped with the recoil more than I thought they would. If I can get the time and have a decent day with my back I’ll try to give a range report. Really hoping to get a range trip in before my back surgery or it will be 2-3 months before my next trip. Also hoping to get to the range one day next week to see if adding a +10% guide rod helps also.

Monstrum Tactical is a cheaper alternative to optics like Vortex used to be. I own 7-8 of their optics with my astigmatism going to a more expensive red dot optic does nothing to benefit me. I have LPVO 1x6x30 I think is the power mounted on my bushmaster AR that has the A1 pencil barrel reading around in my 4Runner for the past 4-5 years I’ve had that rifle for AR for around 20 years. Last time I went over that rifle the only thing I could find that needs replacing is the bolt cam pin. Gas rings are still good. I have know idea the exact round count but it’s in the thousands. I’ll take it probably 1 time a year to the range to make sure all the bouncing around hasn’t knocked the zero off and so far I haven’t had to touch the 50m zero.
