Some sort of axe has always been a part of my camping/survival gear. I keep a hatchet in my get home bag.
I prefer a flat or hammer head on the backside. You'd be surprised at how often you need a hammer. Especially when constructing shelters.
For general purpose use I like a camp axe with about a 24" handle. Does a good job without being too big or bulky.
