New (to me) Model 700

Last weekend I went to my local gun haunt, as I do most weekends, and my intended take home was a homely Smith and Wesson Model 10-8. I'll post about it later.

Well, as I was doing the required paperwork, I saw a heavy barreled rifle in a MacMillan A4 stock. And as usual I let my curiosity get the better of me.

Here's the run down of the whole thing.

Model 700 long action

26 inch heavy barrel, with a two chamber stainless steel muzzle brake. The brake is timed horizontal without using washers or shims. And it's of unknown make, the caliber indication on the chamber is cursive script.

Stock is MacMillan, an A4 I believe, with a near foot long Picatinny rail at six o'clock on the fore end.

Bottom metal/trigger guard is HS Precision, with a detachable magazine.

Scope base, and trigger are also of unknown manufacture.

Clean, this thing feels like it weighs nearly 20 pounds.....

Very nice rifle, those things are tack drivers. BUT those bullets be gay. you gotta get some brass ones and look more legit.

I was testing trigger pull, ain't no live round, or empty chamber gonna be close to it doing that

I knew that, just razzin ya a bit. but that is a nice rifle. oughta reach way on out there.

Yeah they're kinda done at about 1200

Yep. I had a conversation with Gale McMillian (McMillian stocks fame, renowned barrel maker and benchrest shooter) back in the late 90s, and he was of the opinion that a 300-Win Mag had a useful barrel life of 100-1200 rounds.

well if i can get 2,500+ from a 264wm the 300 version should get more
