Range Report: Four Filthy Pistols, One More Time. 8/27/26

BassCliff

Ronin
Hey folks,

Nope, I haven't cleaned my long barreled 9mm pistols yet so I took them back to the range to make sure they were good and filthy. Is this the fourth or fifth time this bunch as been the the range? So all these pistols have about 250 rounds through them, not too filthy, I suppose. There were no malfunctions today. I hope I find the time to clean these soon.

Today's course of fire was pretty simple. Four pistols, four targets, four boxes of ammo, get the idea? Yes, I brought my favorite target in order to pound each one with 50 rounds, looking for big raggedy holes. I guess I had a little success. I shot four targets at 10 yards and then ran the "drill of the week" a few times, the Mozambique (Failure To Stop) at seven yards, with the recommended target. OK, let's go!

You'll forgive me if I don't buy a raffle ticket this month. I would not like this Glock, but I wouldn't mind the optic. ;)

I don't want to lube my glizzy either, thank you very much.

I'll start with the Echelon 5.28" Threaded Barrel and the PPU ammo. I'll shoot the Remington later.

AP1GczNI2fVcj_NoCh-jvLkRhVhV8DmGWsbE7ps-sT2r3DSTwEn6jbs2XLI1bqP4JcfZ2JbGSDZdH_WznMIUZD-kDm9j6hi38Rldp93c4AkSGI9o3tRAfNmF_gQTJC_YdLc_EzVBTNJ1YMxhN9THfP8XOyg_kQ=w1651-h929-s-no

I sent the 12x18 silhouette out to 10 yards, pounded it with 50 rounds, and it came back like this.

AP1GczMe3fne4eejONaD8DE6BBDFe9tL1GrW1GpD2L1hK2mMCfygP-A3ntORczJrNS93GSBG2VrSUtbVb5x0aqhV0jI0usoiTN7wgbatg9sVdrI-hwi84cQ4TVmbZeC8rlMSLmtZ8EkK6sOjYrwhB49qfutIQA=w1651-h929-s-no

I'm shooting fairly quickly today, about one second between shots, mag changes as necessary. I had loaded all my mags with 10 rounds. I'm working toward keeping them all in the 9 ring on this target at this pace. Don't worry, I'll keep practicing. Next up is the Glock 17L.

AP1GczP4LF-G8EDtrDiRWYqjEo54XFIpkxsUrD6I_iglXEKitM9ZFWRxOpUvmjjh66kDEmHKdisVnJL-mIcSwdQyRFum4VIUb3engpNMx4T1jtT1TajO6lteNj-oHoh0H9Nz3XDU_8DaMaQH5LQ27Ne-nk4--w=w1651-h929-s-no

The Splatterburst target had a hint of a raggedy hole. There are still too many outside the 9 ring. That's just me and my brain farts.

AP1GczOg_ZsCploVvGyerxl-4321oTz2KTBp6EMya8Iuc2KhZ3AAN_4rf7-uZPI65stf9yuugJ-y2rO4DwxJI7BaOisgKpcmpnejxVHYW_2fwLLdLw1-N7Xlx75qSxs1nLRE0Gv7sAxuUq6iav9Ac_CNrN55Mw=w1651-h929-s-no

Shifting back to the Springfield products, here's the XDM Elite Precision 5.25". I used the Remington ammo for this target. I've heard that it's fairly accurate. ;)

AP1GczMsoLAlFKyDcaQSrzobvngL3nkdwFlvqJooKjEXDIUEUjs0f8ZcV_wZugGdRzg00YH1wEhgK5sIFK7oGrwtQLe-SE7qqzU31RWJUx5nXvSdKwODcFNDaEQKmSSO6zyELTz1aff36Qn1gLy9QUbnvb-QBA=w1651-h929-s-no

After 50 rounds the target was ventilated thusly.

OK, a couple of small raggedy holes but still a few outside the 9 ring. Next up is the Echelon 4.5F Comp using the Remington ammo. I'm using only the dot (rather than the circle-dot) in the optic. It's working better but sometimes it still takes me a second to find it.

AP1GczP0b8QaM5ZdSgLEyjsxmRactJSlKOu4DJ6GB5bWaW_xvt7VO6hNrvS3myS5LWIlDoBu7I5CdzzabnvypmL05efLdD4XIAnYn9i5LzN76gvTgTSeIMfjb9jFo5J9500xZd_0N8mZ7wW9vdOaPCZUqxSLdA=w1651-h929-s-no

I thought I might have to check the zero on this optic. You might remember it's had a habit of coming loose. It was pretty cool that the first hit on this target was right in the middle of the red bullseye. I should've taken a picture.

It's not exactly centered but there is the beginning of big raggedy hole. I think this qualifies for a glam shot.

I had brought a partial box leftover from my last class. I'm going to use it for the "drill of the week". It's just two to the chest, one to the head at seven yards. I was able to use my timer to go from low-ready. I was in the wrong lane to draw from my holster. Next time. I used the E4.5 to run the drill ten times for a total of 30 hits.

AP1GczOKLIImH8on46UA0xw1xDakZ0mM6tzscP-hYQ7gvd-IVHYxegz0zaQ_Dgu4FNT-KaKbsAXpbFYMXG7KlOAfu0d78cXQKYf-_opVYScRo2TyBbrRuNjutAaAKlsxeRcDMFkTnnJWQI2RmdddZgJygsWi0w=w1651-h929-s-no

I was able to use my timer for the 10 runs. Here are the times. A couple of times were slower because I couldn't find the dot right away. A couple of times I really pushed it and was able to keep things aligned. Sorry, I did not keep track which hits belong to which times. But it seems like all the hits are in the vicinity. ;)

AP1GczMyf4BgL99Hl5RpQZjz5rzEFpw7MWtPXH3RobETg1ytkvWJzhYjvcDqvD096L6qZIpKJJq7mnhGX1xmNSunPnqj7mHqmJFgK86z1fhU3aDU6dTdlxNPAxRYUovuF4I0RrwOzhh-zEDjo2Q7XRmzJWNJkg=w1651-h929-s-no

Sure, the head shots were in a nice tight group but were a little below the "zone". I'll try to remedy that in the future. Now I seem to have seven rounds left at the end of my session. I decided to run this target back out to 10 yards and put one hit on each number and one head shot. I shot the numbers in order with the head shot last. It's funny that both numbers on the bottom row got hits just below. That's definitely me and my mediocrity.

But, all in all, I was pleased with this session. Everything was on the paper and nobody got hurt. :p I packed up all my filthy pistols.

AP1GczMwD_3tFW0y5TTe4q7LQa_nbPCfWjrSXFcXi03m5cLcKsmRhhz5GHfbR-iawlvmU1uQgP_1JXMoto71-tVbCVBlkE8j3rvd7tDICyjctGmbYErmVtdR64H2R1orjK8NLvpt10qNCl7LYb53ZgIR6iqcsA=w1651-h929-s-no

This Condition 1 case is great. I'm going to get another insert for 2 or 3 pistols with a storage area. I figure that way I won't have to clean so many pistols at once. Here's a parting shot of all the targets side by side. I don't know, I think the G17L had the tighter group but the Echelon 4.5F had the bigger raggedy hole.

Hopefully this old man will be able to improve a little before he gets totally decrepit. Oh, I forgot to tell you that I had been shooting in my favorite lane. Now we say goodbye to #6.

Looks great! Another fun day at the range. I love my condition 1 case as well. I have the four pistol, 14 magazine, storage in center model. Though I rarely take more than 2 guns and one of those is usually the one on my hip. Got the case more for the magazine cuts and storage. I like taking care of my expensive magazines. If I ever get the opportunity to try an EDC class I’ll have to dig all the OEM magazines out of their respective retail boxes. Dropping or banging together high dollar magazines outside of an actual SD or HD scenario does not seem frugal to me 😀.

And on your drill of the week; those 10 upper shots may very well have been very effective at stopping the threat, especially the 5-6 that went into the center throat.

Those two grey robot-like targets are a great example of a little known drill called the Nozambique Drill - two to the chest, one to anywhere but the head. You have quite clearly mastered it and should feel great accomplishment. Huzzah, sir! Huzzah!

🤣🤪🤔💂💂💂💂💂😜😜😎😇

Hi guys,,

good times, good shooting

Yes, I had a great time. Thanks!

Nice, from the heading of your thread, I thought this was one of @Belt Fed dirty movies ….😬😬

You, sir, need to get your mind out of the gutter and back on the curb where it belongs.

Looks great! Another fun day at the range.

Thanks! I enjoyed copious amounts of fun units.

I love my condition 1 case as well. I have the four pistol, 14 magazine, storage in center model.

Yes, great case. But I need more storage. I'd rather not bring two bags to the range. I keep a lot of stuff in my range backpack, lots of 8.5x11 printed targets, stapler, tape, timer, a few tools, small cleaning kit, ear and eye pro, ammo, other oddities. The Condition 1 case is just pistols and magazines at the moment.

And on your drill of the week; those 10 upper shots may very well have been very effective at stopping the threat, especially the 5-6 that went into the center throat.

The target hangers at this range leave a little to be desired. They are certainly sturdy but the attachment points allow the "head" area of most silhouette targets to overlap the bottom of the hanger. If you shoot the head you'll put holes in the target hanger. Hence I tend to make the head shots a little low. I forgot to check my last head shot. I'll bet it put a hole in the target hanger. Drat. I guess I could buy a new one. I think they're still $5 at the counter. I'll tag @SimonRL so he'll know why my head shots are usually low. When I'm taking a class I don't care. I don't have to pay for the hangers. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Hey,

@BassCliff Flowers? What did you do?

Ha! One day she asked why I never buy her flowers. I said, "I didn't even know you sold flowers."

Nice chootin’. Clean them guns!!

Thanks. I will. ;)

That was some really good shooting!

I appreciate that. Better than some, not as good as most. :p

Good shootin agent, you ole romantic rascal you.

Thanks! Ya know, I married my wife for her looks. Just not the looks she's been giving me lately.
