Living and working in Chattanooga, Tn during the Blizzard of '93...it crippled this part of the US.
that storm in 93 came through jax fl as a baby winter hurricane type event, blew out power
i was stationed ships company on USS Saratoga, winds blew so hard the she stretched out the power cables , and they broke or froze,,, and the gangway fell into the harbor
frid duty was stuck on board until sunday, as the yard birds couldnt get a crane on the pier from the winds...
i arrived sunday for duty to a dark COLD asssss ship and had to stand watch
power out at the house, momma and kid freezing it was the shiiiit show, WE were vastly unprepared at the naval station... every body just said oh a storm... is coming close a few doors
EDIT ship was in a type of small overhaul so COLD iron, no generators operational, no boilers up as the midgets were re lining them, and fire pumps were at ZERO , ship took on enough water to sit gingerly into the muddy silt at the pier.
complete shiiiit show .. but had to stand freaking watch at the quarter deck in case some body visited
