Hi,

Last night I watched the movie "To Hell And Back", basically an Audie Murphy biography of his heroism in WWII, with Audie Murphy playing himself. Wow.

Today I took Mrs. BassCliff to lunch after church to dine alfresco at our favorite fast food establishment. Now I'm practicing my music for this week's performances, in between forum breaks. ;) Later I will challenge the Mrs. to a Scrabble match. Do you guys have any good Scrabble words for me? Been working on a buddy's 1945 Springfield Armory M1. He's had it for years and aside from a tour of duty at 8th & I, he's never even fired one.

So, I'm taking my time with getting it apart. So far it's been taken down as far as no tools allow.

Tomorrow, the gas cylinder, lower band and handguards will be removed.

It's an arsenal rework, Type 2 lockbar rear sight, 65 series trigger housing, 6-52 HRA barrel, modified operating rod, no hump gas cylinder lock, -12 bolt.

Muzzle wear gaged a VERY tight ZERO.

I soaked the rear sight with oil, the elevation knob is stuck hard with fossilized cosmoline.

I scrubbed the barrel with both nitro solvent, and Hoppes. Insides bright and shiny, with nearly no wear.

Been fun so far.

The progress continues

Today the gas cylinder and front handguard came off. Had to soak the splined end with 3 in 1 oil and take a mallet to it, thanks again to hardened cosmoline.

And I got the elevation knob functioning again.

The lower band and rear handguard will be off tomorrow.

Thanks. Not going away just won't be on everyday. Leg is really taking a beating after 10-12 hours at work. I'm in pain constantly, PT is not helping and docs really not taking my issue seriously. It's been 9 months and honestly at my wits end with this. By the time I get home all I want to do is lay down. It's even hard to give the husky a reduced walk in the morning. I guess its the joy of getting older.

I'm suggesting you get to a reflexologist. I do not suggest anything I have not tried or used. I wasn't able to stand up straight because of the sciatica. Got into see her, and when she pressed the reflex point, my nerve popped like a banjo string and I've never had another problem with it! 27 years and counting!

Just getting caught up with my weekly mail and just read a letter from the Hospital Commander at Holloman AFB. He was writing to inform us that as of 31 Dec 2026 Tricare for Life and medicare retired members will no longer be seen at the base facility. They will have to start going to civilian doctors in the area. This means that most people will have to travel between 60-100 miles to see a doctor. Our small community does not have enough doctors for all these new people. According to the base, the current administration is cutting budgets and does not have enough doctors to man positions at this facility. Also active duty is being sent to downtown doctors also., especially women who are pregnant and doctors for children. We can still use the pharmacy for our perscriptions but that is also slated to change and some medications currently carried might get dropped and have to be filled downtown also. I am sorry I spent 23 years in the military and was promised to be taken care of. This is a disgrace to the men and women that served. I am sure people that use the VA will also be affected in the future. At least I was smart enough to get away from the base and all my doctors are downtown providers. I can see where all this is going and I would never suggest a young person to serve in our military--they don't keep their word.

3 day weekend.... Relax they say. BBQ they say.

Well, my dryer is on the fritz. I'm relatively sure what the problem is. It is so old the maunfacturer parts have been "replaced by" and has a new part number versus what shows on the original exploded view.

Either the switch on the refrigerator bottom freezer drawer or the computer took a dump. If I open the drawer real slow, the light comes on 30% of the time. The other 70% of the time, the open door alarm sounds after a few minutes. Again, an old appliance.

My garage is detached. I haven't been in there in months. 3 of my outdoor cameras are powered by garage power. Those 3 cameras stopped working today. I hit the button from inside the house to open the big door to go into the garage to investivate. 2 black widows were hanging off the bottom of the door. Those of you that know, I WILL NOT go in there. I'm looking for spider bombs on Amazon to use next week. If 2 bombs are good for 800 square feet, I'm gonna ignite and chuck 10 bombs in from the side door.

I started the day out finally hand washing the multiple week pile of stuff that requires hand washing that was cluttering the counter up. Friken place looks like a bunch of hobos live here.

I do have a whole chicken with potatoes and carrots cooking in the dutch oven. The house smells delicious. Maybe I'll just drink for the rest of the day and worry about today's problems tomorrow.
 
Got a call from the wife stating my 3rd oldest was in an accident via drunk driver.........nope, that didn't happen according to my call to the local police. An adult was riding a bike (not motorcycle) down our 4 mile stretch of heavily wooded road with limited line of sight. Most people ride in the lane facing oncoming traffic. Not sure if this was the case or not? The adult male was airlifted. Awaiting for my son to get home to get more info. The road is barely wide enough to stay on the pavement with a dually and doesn't have a shoulder. Not sure the direction traveled by the biker, but either way it's another person with little amount of brain cells. Many people have been riding and walking/running that road for decades and I tell all of those I see doing this that they're idiots! Many of them I know. I do hope the person gets better! Also I don't know what kind of toll it will have on my son regardless of the outcome of the person. My son was was driving (according to police report) less than the speed limit (60 mph) as 55 phone was reported. Deer is bad enough to watch out for and the state of Texas doesn't do enough to clear out trees that ARE dead or unsafe being right next to the pavement! I've been complaining to the state about it for decades, but they keep beautifying the larger towns.

Man up and go hand-to-hand against them like I do for a sporting chance 😁 same goes for scorpions! Not the wife, she hairspray the begebus out of them including wasps. That quick hold spray is as about as thick as paint for the amount she uses🤣. She keeps her shoes on incase she sees a scorpion then she chancletas the 💩out of them like she's giving them a spanking 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I laugh and tell her "are you spanking them or teaching them a lesson "🤷‍♂️. 1 day they'll stick to the bottom of the shoe and go flying at her then the real screaming will happen 🤣
 
Alright, I got the info about the accident.

The cycler was or had been drinking and the deputy could smell it. The person swerved in front of my son as he they were starting to pass each other. There was a father with 2 children coming back from fishing behind my son that saw the occurance. Sun was setting which caused limited visibility being in his face (my son's) which caused my son to slow down even more before hitting the brakes harder. Not knowing if the biker was on a suicide run/drive or not at this time? I'll report back when more info comes available. The guy driving behind my son corroborated what happened about the bikers actions.
