The younger workplace void

My sainted old Dad, before my first day on my first job said “Son, if a man’s paying you a day’s pay, give him a day’s work”. Sound advice and will serve anyone well. If your job is rotten or you hate your boss, change jobs. But always, always do what you’re paid to do. Today’s kids feel “entitled”, that somehow the employer “owes” them, rather than being thankful for a job that puts clothes on your back and food on your table. That degree you’ve got in underwater basket weaving or diversity studies/ gender transition ain’t helping you any. Kids refuse to learn a trade, go to college and spend a fortune (and go deep in debt) for a worthless degree and then are absolutely amazed they can’t make $250k a year starting the day after graduation. Got three nephews, (in their 40’s) two with multiple times in “school” learning things they can’t make a living at, wondering why, and constantly taking money from the folks to make ends meet. Neither can hold a job for 6+ months.. The third has no formal training from school after high school, but he DID apprentice and learn a trade. Today he’s a master plumber who runs a crew on major construction. Been with the same company for 20+ years, makes way over $150k yr (and a LOT more in some years. ). He’s invested in the stock market pretty heavily , owns his home and could retire TODAY (at 48) if he wanted to. He plans to work until he’s 60😏

Skilled craftsmen are a dying breed. Parents have allowed children to feel entitled. People continually look for the easy way out and everything that is wrong is someone else's fault. Poor guidance and structure starts as a trickle then turns into a river. Yes fault does lie with institutions but it also can be found in the home. Responsibility and accountability should be life tools learned at home.
 
We should be teaching kids responsibility, critical thinking, integrity, hard work, full battery of academics including some college, basic skills like cooking and changing oil and some type of trades type skills, financial skills, not being entitled, seeing other cultures...

Instead we make excuses for them, take away risk and accomplishment, run down education, teach pride not skill, make them think they deserve something, they're the best because they're from the USA, they know it all and ate never wrong...

Kids are screwed when they get to real life. Huge slap in the face coming

I saw 2 people (male and female ) at wally world today as both had facial piercings and tats. I said to my daughter "I wonder if their kids would come out with the piercings and tats too (being born/delivered) 🤷‍♂️ "? She laughed and said probably 🤣. Nothing wrong with their decisions, only looking at it with a different point of perspective/observation 🥳

I agree that parent's having given up a lot of thier responsibilities.

But schools have also failed with things that are there responsibility. No red ink, no Fs or incompletes. Having a minimum score of 50% when it should be a zero.
They aren't helping the kids any with any of these things

America has 7 million unfilled jobs, but the workforce crisis didn't start at work. It started in classrooms that stopped teaching character.

my state has invested some big monies into the technical schools here..

even Electric Boat..(NAVY contractor for the submarines) has been hiring and training all sorts of ship builders trades students.

so here at least, there is a "push" to get young people into high paying trades.
 
Lets not forget the lasting effects of gov. policy that trained the youth during covid. We threw $$$ at people not to work and here for almost two years people didn't have to pay rent and couldn't be evicted. I know one tenant that couldn't manage to pay his rent but somehow managed to buy a new bass boat AND a pontoon party barge. My Granddaughter with unemployment +++$$$ made more per month than I did working as a prison guard.

Let me bend the trajectory of the conversation a bit.

Wages are a complex case. The inequity is there - between wages and executive compensation, but the amount of money that goes to benefits (healthcare being enormous) is generally left out of the conversation when it comes to the workforce. I don't know why that is, but it is. Affordability? Hmmm. What is that, really?

When you look - actually look - at the job data, US job openings for June were revised down by -177,000, their largest monthly downward revision since November 2025.

This also marks the 3rd consecutive monthly downward revision.

Furthermore, the number of hires for June was revised down by -16,000, while the number of quits was revised lower by -19,000.

At the same time, the number of layoffs and discharges was revised up by +19,000.

As a result, job openings have now been revised down in 38 of the last 43 months. US labor market data is becoming increasingly difficult to read with confidence. I ask, why is that?

So, the question becomes, I think, are current policies creating the economic environment? Will this distill over into the midterms? That's what keeps me awake at night.

1: They all lie. D., I., R., S., etc. all of them!
2: "WAG" (wild a**ed guess). Not only dose everybody lie but they are pulling numbers out of a hat BEFORE they have the actual data. Thus, when they have the "real" numbers they have to be revised. Maybe they should wait to put out the numbers until they have them, then they can lie with authority.
3: Confidence in the Gov.? Not that I can ever recall.
