I moved from Illinois with my wife and 2 young children in 1985 and felt I was leaving a great place to live (small town) to the enormous State of Texas and a much larger city. While going back to visit the folks in the mid 90's I realized the Illinois we were visiting was nothing like the Illinois we left. My wife and I were talking the other night how we seldom identify with being from Illinois. Although with each gun purchase its clear, ease of purchase and place of birth. On 12/31/1985 we both had grins since that was the day we all officially landed in Texas. Our 3rd child was born in TX so the whole family claims/lives off his real Texan blood :). After 4 decades we are thrilled we made the decision. I realize not everyone has the opportunity to leave just so thankful we did. I will admit, in the beginning being seperated from family sucked but once retired they came here for extended stays.

That’s every where you go now a days. Colorado ain’t the same as when I was born in ‘78.

Great place to live and grow, but even then Chicago ran the state, and it has gotten worse every decade since. Folks passed a decade ago-no longer ever go back except to decorate my parents and grandparents graves on Memorial Day. I hate what the state has became. If the rest of the state would kick out Cook county and a couple others it’d still be a great place to live. Failing that-you can keep what it’s became.

For me it was between Carbondale and MT Vernon thru Jr High. Then moved to the NW corner finished HS and stayed in the area for a decade.
