Comment On Inflation

20260223_161955.jpg

I haven't posted a picture of Mutt and her blanket in a while. According to the local meteorologist who's been forecasting weather in eastern Colorado forever and is usually right we are about to have the same kind of winter we had when Mutt first started sleeping in my car.

So I got to thinking about that and I did some research on this blanket.

The factory that they made it in in Mexico has gone out of business. The blankets are considered "vintage" and they're selling for 60 to 70 dollars now.

Now here is a comment on AI and inflation. I asked the AI how much these blankets are going for? How easy they are to find on eBay? What they're worth? And other such questions.

BSG fans will understand.

So, as I said at the beginning of this discussion the AI bot told me that those blankets were going for a whopping 60 or 70 bucks now. That's not bad when you consider that I only paid 20 bucks for it.

So I asked the AI what 20 1992 dollars was in 2026 dollars, the AI said it was around 65 bucks. So if I didn't make the point clear the blankets cost the same now, but the dollars are worth less.

What made me think about that was I just heard a commercial for Applebee's they were advertising a hamburger for 25 bucks

The deep-slide began with the Bush-Cheney Admin when they cut a deal with the Dems to support the Iraq War (how did that go for ~10 years?) and for the same time domestic spending went up the same rate, then Potus O ramped the domestic spending up more while he enjoyed droning ISIS and giving tons of $$ to Iran.

Then the Covid-panic hit and trillions of $$ went to China for masks, etc. that had no relationship to protecting people, while Potus puddinghead spent trillions letting the the trash-heap of the world come across the border and decided to give them free everything, plus all the rampant medicare/medcaid, SSecrutity fraud and projects to nowhere.

All the massive increases in domestic spending each year became the base-line to add on to the next fiscal year according to the Donkeys.

All this has devalued the USD, plus shutting down the economy during Covid screwed things up that are still affecting us today.

Folks then whine that they need a pay increase to compensate which just causes more increases through the economy.

The US public has such a short memory that they blame POTUS 47 for the reason things cost so much when it's been a work in progress for the last 26 years.

Folks complain the interest rates are ~4% vs. the 2% that the Fed artifically supported/created during most of that time, when my parents had to pay double-digits % for a home loan when I was a kid.

I remember back when Reagan was president. The national dept reached $900 Billion (took 200+ years, 2 world wars and a Cold War to get there) and the Dems were screaming it was the end of the world. Now an extra $1 TRILLION per Quarter is “normal”, and folks wonder why Hamburgers are $20 and fast food workers make $20-25/hour🙄

folks the problem goes back much further in history than our recent presidents.

The history of income tax in the USA began with the first federal income tax introduced in 1861 to help finance the Civil War. The modern income tax system was established with the ratification of the 16th Amendment in 1913, allowing Congress to levy taxes on income without apportionment among the states. The Federal Reserve was created on December 23, 1913, when President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act into law.

Printing more currency, (which the USD is a debt note, which means it is borrowed) increases the money supply which directly influences inflation, among other things.

How much would it cost for a nuke to go off in a US City?

For 47 yrs all the POTUSs except one pandered to the crazies in Iran who constantly yelled death to America, while they killed a couple thousand US troops/personnel from Beruit to present time.
as a sailor who had to sail in the northern Arabian gulf LOTS of freaking times,, it was always a tip toe and water tight hatches 2nd and below under 5 presidents... zip was ever really done to nix the crap from Iran.. although Reagan and Clinton scared them a few times

It really started for the US (After the revolution) in 1801.

First Barbary War (1801–1805)
This is the conflict most often described as America’s first foreign war or first war fought on foreign soil. After independence, Barbary states (especially Tripoli) demanded tribute and seized U.S. merchant ships. President Jefferson sent a naval squadron to the Mediterranean; fighting included blockades, ship-to-ship actions, the burning of the captured USS Philadelphia, and a small overland expedition that reached Derna in present-day Libya. The war ended with a treaty in 1805. It is also the source of the “shores of Tripoli” line in the Marine Corps Hymn.

The First Barbary War (1801–1805), also called the Tripolitan War, was fought mainly between the United States and the Regency of Tripoli (Ottoman Tripolitania, in present-day Libya).

The Barbary rulers and corsairs were Muslim. Corsair activity had long targeted Christian shipping and coastal communities, with captives often ransomed or enslaved; some contemporary Barbary statements cited Islamic duty or jihad as justification.
