first suppressor - .30 magnums

Unless you are shooting subsonic ammo the crack is much louder than you will expect. Your ears may not hear as much noise but it's not going to affect the sound heard downrange or to the sides.

At this point I’ve never quite “got” the suppressor for a rifle thing. I mean most any rifle fires a bullet at supersonic velocity. As such, there WILL be a loud crack when said bullet break the sound barrier. Doesn’t matter what the propellent is, bullet alone makes a loud noise. In addition, Most suppressors will killed db or so-But a rifle will be around 140, so a reduction still leaves a sound pressure wave of 100 bd or so (loud enough that hearing protection is required in an industrial environment). Given the above, “why” is a suppressor on a rifle a hot thing? Seriously Why? Inquiring minds want to know. I know a subsonic .300 Blackout can be pretty quiet, as can subsonic 9’s and .22’s, but every other rifle I’ve seen fired, even with a suppressor, is loud.
Just to make that 1 shot on the animal less harmful. 140 vs 160-170 is a big drop. I dont think id have muffs on walking the mountains or time to pull them from the pack

surprisingly not that loud db wise, more of a boom being a big bore. like a 44mag on steroids compared to 357mag's crack
It’s not so much the noise as the “my eyebrows!” flinch.

Consider a GOOD set of electronic muffs-they’ll serve to both enhance your own hearing AND reduce the sound you hear when the rifle is fired-and deliver about as much noise reduction as a suppressor for a lot less $$ and no hassles or potential hassles.

What muffs do you use?
