I've rented a echelon 4.0 and was very impressed. Looking to get a everyday carry, was looking at a s&w shied but I like the way the 4.0 shoots. Im 6' slim build. Can I carry the echelon effectively.

Yes! It is certainly possible to carry a 4" barrel pistol, especially someone of your size/build. As has been mentioned, you may have to adjust your wardrobe around it, find the right holster for it, the right belt, after you decide how you are going to conceal carry.
I don't know how far you are on this journey but you'll want to consider 'outside the waistband' (OWB), 'inside the waistband' (IWB), a shoulder holster under a jacket, a "tuckable" holster under a suit, cross-draw, etc. A lot of carriers, myself included, like the AIWB (inside the waistband over the appendix - about 2 o'clock) under an untucked shirt. Maybe this link will help get you started...

Hi,
I normally carry AIWB but sometimes I will train OWB, carrying at 3 o'clock on my strong side. You can still cover it with anything from a long t-shirt to a jacket. Then sometimes I will tuck my shirt in at the range and open carry, depending on the training bits we're working on. There's many ways to git'r'done.
