The Hellcat is much lighter and has a better form factor. I'd bring the XDS to the shop, in a bag unloaded of course, and do a direct comparison. My opinion is go with the Hellcat.

I have two of the 5 round extenders. And yes, just because they're pretty. Haven't had any problems with them. I'd suggest calling Springfield customer service and see what they have to say. When I get home, I'll take a look and see if I can repeat your problem.

As an able bodied adult, no I wouldn't carry it. There's too many other options available that are more reliable and pack more of a punch. If I was much older, I might consider differently. But even then there's pistols like the Shield EZ that make the 22 kinda pointless.
