That's a model 17-6 made in 1990. In the early 90s S&W made full lug versions of all the Target Masterpiece guns. 17-6 .22, 14-5 .38 Special and 16-4 .32 H&R. I have one of each. 😁 Yes the one next to it is a standard 17-5. On the bottom row are two 18-3s and a 34-1.

Most likely because the cylinder isn't long enough. Older S&W .32 longs can be reamed to .32 H&R, but are too short for the .327.

.32 is a good choice for people with arthritis or hand issues. My wife used a S&W Model 30 in .32 Long and was very happy with it.

While I'm primarily a 1911 or revolver kinda guy, my choice for DA/SA pistols is Sig. Huge fan of the classic P2XX series of all metal guns. I have 6 of those and have carried some of them from time to time. Don't give a crap for anything plastic no matter who makes it.
