A brief history of the US military’s presence in Greenland

My Brother-in-Law ( US Air Force) was a Radar repair tech in the late 1960's and was stationed at Sondrestrom Air Base in Greenland.

My Ronin - lookin a little different

It is a Wilson fixed Battlesight with a .145 wide notch and a u bottom. Wilson says they are higher than a standard Novak Lowmount sight and typically require a .190 high front. That is what SA found it needed; the .190 high night sight they used is .135 wide and give a great sight picture...

My Ronin - lookin a little different

That is Tractiongrips grit tape. They have them pre cut for a 1911 and their grey goes good with stainless.

Pirro Threatens to Arrest Lawful Gun Owners in D.C.

BUT; if you take up permanent residence in Arizona you don't need to get married again BUT you do have to possibly take a test and get an Arizona license within a certain amount of time,

    Citizen checkpoints

Why don't the PD do something? It is simple; They are being told to stand down and stay out of it by the powers to be. The powers to be are kept in power by catering to the very people ICE is after. It's the same reason that a blind eye was turned toward the fake daycare and the same mindset...

My Ronin - lookin a little different

Just delivered back from. Springfield Armory. Sent in to have a Wilson Rear sight installed and checked for POI. Also mentioned a small burr at the slide stop notch. Wilson Rear installed, checked for POI and needed a taller front sight. SA front night with orange ring sight installed ( only...

What is a Ronin? Just kidding. To hard to clean though? I never thought so.

Brass Matters: Variance, Longevity, and the Hidden Geometry of Case Life

The neck/shoulder area can be annealed to help prevent cracks from work hardening. The base / lower case should not be annealed.

    Iron sights question

2 week and two day turnaround from Springfield. Wilson Battlesight rear installed and fired for POI, Needed a higher front as expected and the only one they had available in the correct height was a night sight with an orange ring similar to the OP. I was told the front is like what comes on...

Is Kimber the go-to for 1911s these days?

I would rather have a Springfield. I will admit to some bias with Kimber. When the original Kimber of Oregon was in Clackamas and owned by the Warnes they had a fine high end .22 Rimfire rifle. Unfortunately, certain business practices led to bankruptcy. Along came Edelman and Nationwide...

Mags keep dropping from Ronin 9mm

I also have a 5" Ronin. I use Wilson, Ed Brown Tripp and Springfield mags. A couple of things to check: Many aftermarket magazine catches have a Wolff #2 spring which is two steps lighter then stock. I prefer the #1 Wolff spring myself. Maybe try a heavier spring. And; is the magazine...

Was the Atomic Bombing of Japan Necessary?

Even after the first (Hiroshima) bomb Japan refused to surrender. They would have fought to the last man if we ended up invading the homeland and it would have been terribly costly in terms of manpower. So yes, it was necessary. The thing that galls me is the USSR. They refused requests to...

    Iron sights question

Not a bad idea but I just don't care for them. I am more of a traditionalist.

    Why no gunsmithing thread ?

It may be hard to get a Smith that knows their stuff to commit time for a Gunsmith section. They are probably too busy for it.

    Iron sights question

Not an XDm but I am having the rear sight on my Ronin switched to a Wilson Battlesight. For my use and eyes I believe the .145 wide slot will work out better for me. SA is doing the remove and replace and it will stay with the stock front fiber optic unless a higher front is needed to zero...

    Sierra .30 Cal .308 discontinued. 7350

A lot of those older bullets are as good as they ever were but were discontinued due to newer designs. I still have one sealed box of these. Nosler Zipedo solid base .22 bullets. I never got around to trying them but I did use a LOT of their later .22 Solid Base boattails. The Zipedo's were...

The M13 Aircrewman Revolver, Part I

A few avoided destruction and are still around. There are more fakes or Frankenguns than real ones now I believe.

    Reliable Snap Caps

all I know is that I normally like Tipton. With 9mm though the Tipton's I tried had two issues in my 1911: after a couple of snaps they would go too deeply into the chamber and the base was too small for the extractor to reliably grab. I gave up on them.

    HS-Custom Garrison 4.25″ 9mm

It is good to see someone who's first suggestion is NOT to get rid of all the MIM. to quote from the article. “I build more guns on ‘Springers’ than any other. I enjoy doing it because the specs are always spot-on with no surprises. Aftermarket parts are easy to fit, and I usually never need to...
