    Range Report: Quick 100 Rounds w/Ronin, 4/1/25

Close; Heavier spring does not open as hard but it closes harder which is why it helps going back into battery. Ideal is to strike a balance where it opens fully and locks on last shot while still going fully into battery. 11 or 12 lbs seems to be a sweet spot for 9mm in a full size 1911...

    Range Report: Quick 100 Rounds w/Ronin, 4/1/25

Nice. I have a full size Ronin 9mm also. They are very nice 1911's. I also think the stock 9 lb recoil spring is too light. I think they install it because many user will mainly use cheap relatively weak 115 grain range ammunition. I like good and somewhat higher pressure 124 grain ( or...

Let me know: Ronin Range Officer 5" 9mm

What is a Ronin Range Officer? I have a 5" Ronin 9mm; mine is a very early one marked Ronin Operator. I have no complaints at all other than I think SA puts too low a poundage recoil spring for my tastes. They build it with a 9 lb spring in the 9mm's, I am using ban 11 lb spring and like it...

Third day in Detroit area this week

I used to have to go to the Detroit area on business. I guess there are some nice areas but it seems like the machining and plating shops I went to were not in them. Southfield, MI, and one company over on 8 mile road.

Chrome Silicon vs. Stainless Steel: Which Recoil Spring is Right for You?

Sprinco makes some fine springs. I may need to try one in my 1911. I see that now that you were talking about springs for an AR platform. I was talking springs for a 1911 pistol. In the 1911 Sprinco and Wolff cost about the same and I would use either in a 19114 with confidence.

Chrome Silicon vs. Stainless Steel: Which Recoil Spring is Right for You?

Standard round wire recoil springs of the correct weight. My go to spring is a Wolff. They worked fine for over 100 years as designed. I get a kick out of how some people say JMB was a genius and made the 1911 perfect; don't use new methods like MIM, Ti firing pins etc then go on about flat...

    Wilson combat oil

I do not think you will go wrong using any decent oil. I also think that a lot of the oils from different builders/suppliers are very similar. I use Ed Brown oil myself because that is what I happen to have at hand.

Breaking the Mold: Magpul’s Knives & Groundbreaking MIM Technology

Can't be. All the "experts" out there says that MIM is porous, can't be hardened so it's too soft, will crumble if you fit or hone it and will crack and break so how can it make a good knife blade? Than again, if it will make a usable knife blade why not a sear, or hammer etc.

    Denali or McKinley?

As others said it was originally Denali ( The Great One in the native language) and when the national park was proposed in 1916 it was proposed as Mt. Denali Nat'l Park. While the name was being argued out Pres. McKinley was assassinated so the name Changed and was officialized as Mt. McKinley...

    Prodigy firing pin stop question

I don't think it is a crack, just a mold artifact. That said; If it is a standard 1911 FP Stop the Wilson BP stop will work with little or no fitting. My Ronin's stop was sloppy enough that it allowed a slight clocking of the extractor. Picked up a Wilson BP stop cheap and it went in nicely...

    I inherited a sword

Start by getting it identified / appraised by someone who knows what they're doing. Japanese swords from WWII may be contemporary made and issues OR they could be old family swords, sometimes made up with plain handles, tsubas and sheaths. The older family swords can be worth a lot of money...

President Joe Biden has pardoned his son, Hunter

I think that the plan was for Kamala to pardon him allowing Joe to keep his promise not to. When she didn't win all bets were off. If anyone thinks this is about that gun charge go back and read the pardon again. A starting date was picked that was just before he was hired by Burisma and when...

    Blast from the past

From what I understand Mike Stewart was a great knife guy with good ideas and designs; but could be hard to work with. I always likes the old Blackjack designs He also started Bark River knives.
