For you 1911 guys how many mags do you carry?

Hahaha yes He was the novel version of Guns & Ammo in the 80s. You either loved of hated his books but his write-ups of the guns he described were spot on. Chances are none of us will ever need or carry a Six Pack but if needed it sure seems like a cool accessory Today less and less of us...

For you 1911 guys how many mags do you carry?

The best alternative to the "Six Pack" that Ive come up with is from TUFF Products They make them for single and double stack mags AND to hold different number of mags; but nylon and velcro just doesnt seem right for 1911 mags...

For you 1911 guys how many mags do you carry?

I typically carry TWO spare mags even for a double stack 9 OR 5.7, so thats minimum 45 rounds (9mm) and 70 rounds for 5.7x28. Ive been toying with carrying a 1911 again. Carrying more than two spare mags seems excessive even for me; but 8+8+8 is only 24, so Im scratching my head

    29 years ago today

I worked with an officer who had been there (she later transferred to my agency). She talked about how crazy it was but how they held it together. According to her, they all carried extra mags in their vehicles. That prompted me to carry extra mags. We couldnt carry them on our belt either...

Ayoob: Was the 10mm Destined to Fail?

Well yesssss but it depends on the length of your sling....and dont get me started on the differences between sling materials. There was that guy with the big boat that insisted sinew was best but I like......

Im thinking of a Red Dot for a hunting rifle

I run red dots on ARs and Shotguns and Pistols, even on a Grenade Launcher, now Im toying with one on a hunting rifle. That might not be unusual; but its for a O/U 308 double rifle. Doubles while capable of longer ranges (cartridge dependent) are typically intended for 100m or less. This will...

Ayoob: Was the 10mm Destined to Fail?

Well....I hear your exasperation; but thats been the gun world since David first chucked a stone. Gun guys talk guns and calibers like car guys debate Fords and Chevys. If you are around long enough youll eventually hear the guy who argued for Ford say nice things about Chevys AND a guy who...

    A G Russell Sting

Thanks Brother. I think I first learned about the STING in a series of adventure novels by Jerry Ahern, "The Survivalist". The hero carried a Sting and I thought it sounded cool. Those books got me through a lot of crazy times. I think Ive read them 20+ times, joining the characters on their...

Ayoob: Was the 10mm Destined to Fail?

Its not only that; hes also a court recognized firearms and lethal force expert. This is a guy that got his start when spare mag pouches were little more than glass cases with a spring clip

Ayoob: Was the 10mm Destined to Fail?

I actually had a BREN 10 in my hand but it was one of the ones without a magazine. I was tempted because we were assure the mags would be coming. There was a Miami Vice episode where Sonny changes mags and drops the empty. Rumor is/was that Bren 10 fans scoured the location for the magazine...

Traditional Firepower in the Modern Age: The M1A Lineup

I carried an M21 for a while when I was in the desert. Later shot PRS with a civilian version. Its a GREAT combat DMR, not up to current sniping capabilities but I wouldnt want to be in front of one. The ART scope was a fantastic optic match for the gun. I do occasionally have an urge for a...

Shooting Skills? I Don't Think So.

When I started as an MP in 1980 everybody had shooting experience. When I started as a cop out of a class of 60 recruits 55 had shooting experience. The last academy class before I retired had TWO that had actually held a gun ...... but there were plenty of Xbox shooters

    wheel of fortune

About 10 years ago I looked into "climbing" Mt Kilimanjaro. Its really more of a hike than actual climbing. They have tours that will pack and, up camp and cook for you along the way. For an extra $50 they will provide a private toilet (which is really just a chem toilet with a shower tent...

Just ordered a Ronin EMP 3-inch

Ill add this, I used to carry TWO Detonics Combat Master 1911 (this was in the pre Colt Officer Model days). Two gave me a fast reload and a faster response if there was a malfunction. Back then I used an Alessi rig. Instead of thumb snaps the Alessi used pull through snaps in the...

Just ordered a Ronin EMP 3-inch

I really like horizontal shoulder holsters for short 1911s. In my mind the Miami Classic the the absolute best. It balances the gun with two mags on the opposite side. Avoid the urge to use tie downs. The gun and mags will balance the rig. Tie towns actually make to gun show more than not...
