Is there really that much difference

True . I'll even go farther , that the absolute most important, is the first solid hit of the engagement. For that may well be only one . The rest of the inferences & conclusions , l will diverge.

Is there really that much difference

Well, Yes & Not So Much . Yes , the big strides are in penetrating cars And subsequently somewhat performing . But this is more of an important thing for *some* but not all LE . Usually not common for General Public self defense. For Interpersonal Defense , the better of the back in...

Is there really that much difference

Except when your boat capsizes . Which is almost a joke . But a good friend did have a fatal boat accident wearing a .45acp . ( The Autopsy couldn't definitely figure if boat capsized * because * he had heart attack, or boat capsized first , and then had heart attack in the water . )

Democrats Reintroduce Bill To Require Background Checks For Ammo Purchases

Not in Virginia there's not . There's a very convoluted difficult process for * Local Offices * , that won't directly remove them , but rather trigger a hearing in Circuit Court , to determine if the particular Local Officeholder should be removed from Office , for serious criminal acts ...

    Talk to me about Alabama

FWIW, don't care about the beach . For geographical druthers being within reasonable distance of mountains a plus . With a pension and savings , wage rates not an issue . Five years ago , giving thought to E. Tenn , but since then real estate has gotten as expensive as ( current location) .

Oldest Self Defense Gun You Would Still Carry?

If you mean an actual Old one , and not just the 1911 design . My #2 shooting & hunting partner for a while carried a 1911 ( not A1 ) . The only issue with that is not the vintage ones in decent origonal condition are valuable , and holster wear from daily wear is a $$ issue .

    .41 Special loads

I don't have a link handy , but do a search for Taffin Tests .41 Special. ****************** Massively oversimplified take on .41 Spl . The original concept was .410 caliber, running at .38 Spl velocities . Try your prefered powders you use for 158gr .38 Spl , and fine tune for...

    Talk to me about Alabama

Didn't want to hijack Cedric's thread . Recently North / Northeast Alabama has popped on my horizon for retirement. Criteria include less taxes , more freedom, lower cost of living , four seasons, but less snow shoveling than ( current location ) . Good area , or am l overlooking...

Philadelphia Becomes the Latest City to Sue Glock

I get it , that " hundreds" is a figure of speech. But sure , there are a Large Plethora of handguns that would be * at least reasonably suitable for Duty Use * . But for Departments , that's just part of it . A big part is the service & support from the Mfg / authorized LE Distributors...

    Truck tires

That's the one that l absolutely Hate ! Once upon a time , we bought a used XJ that had almost new Michelins . I blanched at the idea of throwing away almost new $$ tires , but the absolute total lack of traction made it a necessity. We were both out to the Biggfoot Outpost #1 in the...

Diagnosing Inaccuracies: Is It You or Your Gun?

25 yards is the traditional standard for * Gun & Ammunition Testing * ( Long historical background, but accept as given for now . ) Testing for pure accuracy of the gun / ammo is done from some flavor of a Rest , from a bench , or sometimes two hand braced . The concept is to eliminate/...

Diagnosing Inaccuracies: Is It You or Your Gun?

    Ok , to give yourself some realistic -ish yardstick, try using the T&Q ( Training & Qualification) scoring system on that B-27 ( l looked it up , what Texas used ) . 10 ring , 9 ring , and 8 ring count as " 5 points " , 7 ring as 4 points , outside 7 ring count as 3 points . (...

Ayoob: Was the 10mm Destined to Fail?

Brooks Brothers was slightly tongue in cheek. But there was pushback about the concealability for casual clothes or off duty carry . The FBI issue 10mm ammo of 180gr @ 950-ish fps was essentially the same as typical 180gr .40S&W duty loads , but the subsequent G22 was somewhat smaller , and...

Ayoob: Was the 10mm Destined to Fail?

Actually , IF the comparison was .357 Silvertip 145 from 3 inch K Frame vs M1076 w/ FBI spec 10mm , recoil would have. Been non issue . But alas , the standard issue load was .38 +P , and actual .357 was case by case supervisor approval , for specific operations. At Least as much as recoil ...
