FLORIDA'S CASTLE DOCTRINE. ONE REASON I LOVE LIVING IN FLA.

I’ll offer this …. I’m seeing a number of SYG cases (disclaimer: haven’t handled any such cases since our law in Alabama changed a few years ago), and they never seem to involve a home invasion-type scenario. SYG is just a fancy politically correct term for self-defense. As a lawyer, you...

Colt Continues to Set the Standard for 1911s with the Competition Series

What CZ was able to do is bring Colt manufacturing into the 21st century. Now production is modern CNC, much more repeatable than hand fitting. All my Colts are pre-CZ, but I’m not rushing out to dump them for “new” CZ Colts.

When it comes down to it, what is your "go to" EDC?

I’ve probably done the same thing. And my voting precinct location is a big ‘ol church the size of a city block with county deputies directing traffic!

When it comes down to it, what is your "go to" EDC?

Another place I do carry and do still go to them, are restaurants. My Colt Agent 38 (97% my primary carry) disappears into my shorts pocket. As a lawyer, I’m in and out of court houses and federal buildings up to 10 days a month. Parking lots are monitored by cc cameras and a deputy (or...

I still maintain you do not have to answer your door, and you can call 911. Yes, response times may vary from local LE, but still the smarter way to engage, to my way of thinking. To go out and investigate may be walking into an ambush - you just can’t be too cautious. You can go to the door...

Colt Continues to Set the Standard for 1911s with the Competition Series

Colt was already on a quality “uptick” in QC with their pistols by the time CZ Group took over. I’ve had dozens of Colts over the years and there were definitely times when you had to wonder how a particular specimen made it out the door. That trend was changing by the mid 2000s. Currently...

When it comes down to it, what is your "go to" EDC?

Reading some of the responses here made me chuckle. Everything in life involves some sort of compromise where one can make a conscious choice. These days if you go to your kids athletic event at the stadium there may be metal detectors to get inside. I can generally avoid going into the bank...

I doubt anyone would argue that with you since morals vary widely among people and everyone imprints their own experiences on their moral code/personal values that then drives a response in a situation.

Excellent question. And your right … no excuse whatsoever. I think I heard a report that the kid was shot down the street, which if true, will likely result in a murder indictment. I’ve not tried to verify that report, so if I’m wrong, I apologize and hope I’m corrected.

You don't have any legal duty or obligation to answer the door. I would think that with the prevalence of cell phones, no one needs to be knocking on doors for help anymore. If you're at home, call 911 and have an operator on the line summon law enforcement to your place if it's out of the...

Where Have All the Gunsmiths Gone?

Retirement or death? The really talented ones are not getting any younger. I used Hamilton Bowen for multiple project revolvers, and he's now retired. Dave Severns worked on my Colt 1911s and a few Les Baers over the years. I had Reeves Jungkind tune a couple of Pythons for me. He's...

    Burris Optics: Yesterday and Today

I've had good experiences with Burris over the years, mostly with their handgun scopes (sadly, it seems not a priority anymore). My son picked up a couple of their "Droptine" line of scopes a few seasons ago during the China-flu when the LGS was trying to move some stagnant inventory. He runs...

    I like Heinies

I like the straight-eight configuration as well, for SPEED, not necessarily for PRECESION. Let me tell you about my experiences with them that you may find useful or helpful. Many years ago, I was a prosecuting attorney responsible for drug prosecutions in my circuit. There were some bad dudes...

9mm Range ammo for high volume practice Comped / Ported handgun?

Have you ever looked at Atlanta Arms before? I’ve used their 9mm and it’s been very consistent and clean. https://atlantaarms.com/ Another option to consider is Bone Frog. I can attest to their reliability and quality offerings. Easy to deal with too...
