Always best to use the correct magazine for the caliber you are using.

No they don’t. Years ago I got the two mixed up at the range. Different cartridge lengths and diameters

In my experience 1911 mags for the 10mm, 9mm and .40 have a rib top to bottom at the front and the 1911 .45acp is flat sided. The rib guides the smaller cartridges, it is not necessary for the 45.

both are for large framed guns as oal's are nearly the same. feedlips will be the issue as followers will be the next if double stacked. i can use some 45 mag parts in 10 in glocks, but haven't tried any of the xdm cross. m/p will be cross compatible on some mag parts also.
