The first national news story I can remember, I was 6 years old.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, is assassinated in 1963 while traveling through Dallas, Texas, in an open-top convertible.

First lady Jacqueline Kennedy rarely accompanied her husband on political outings, but she was beside him, along with Texas Governor John Connally and his wife, for a 10-mile motorcade through the streets of downtown Dallas on November 22. Sitting in a Lincoln convertible, the Kennedys and Connallys waved at the large and enthusiastic crowds gathered along the parade route. As their vehicle passed the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 p.m., Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired three shots from the sixth floor, fatally wounding President Kennedy and seriously injuring Governor Connally. Kennedy was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital. He was 46.

My POS sister was 3 years and 6 weeks old and my brother was 1 year 1 month old. It would be another 23 months to the day before I would be born.

but seriously, its a terrible thing, the assassination of a world leader

i think from what i recall, 2 of the saddest parts was watching the funeral and his kids...its embedded in my mind, "Little John-John" saluting the casket...and Jackie climbing over the trunk to get the the Secret Service agent...

I was 3 when this happened, I know my mom took it kinda hard.

2nd grade, came over the loudspeaker that was in every classroom. All the kids were silent
as was the teacher. Our teacher shortly after started crying. We all felt bad through the day
and at home.

Coming from Massachusetts this was very upsetting as a 7 year old. I remember our teacher coming into the classroom crying and told us school was done for the day and to go home to our parents. Got home and mom had tv on and was also crying. I have never forgot this day and it will remain with me until the day I die.

That was before my time but i remember being in Mrs. Feind’s car coming home from school when we heard about Reagan being shot.

I was 12 at the time. Old enough to understand that someone important had been killed but to young to really understand the ramifications of that act.

My grandmother took it very, very hard. She had met JFK once, I think, or perhaps it was his mother, or maybe both. Any way she had a letter from JFK thanking her for her help with a reception for his mother and that was one of her proudest possessions. That letter tended to make us all fans of JFK so I knew something bad had happened.
