1911 45 auto barrel accuracy test

I found these 1911 45 barrel test results interesting.

The velocity difference between barrels was much more than I would have throught.

5 ten shot groups at 50 yards using the same lot of Federal 185 gr JSWC ammo using a barrel test fixture to eliminate
all mechanical pistol slide to frame/barrel fit differences.

At 50 yards a 0.004 inch difference of slide to barrel position will make about a 1" difference in point of inpact,
since the sights are on the slide and move seperate to the barrel.

Just for reference to target shooting, the NRA 50 yard bullseye target has an X ring diamter of 1.695", the 10 ring is 3.36"
Even the worst barrel tested from a GI 1911 would still score a perfect 100 on the 10 shot group.
It might have missed an X or two.

The top 8 barrels "average" group size would have resulted in a score of 100 - 10X or a perfect target.

Accuracy Got You Over a Barrel?
I have found out it’s more important to have the barrel properly fitted, meaning the bushing, lugs and the bottom of barrel where the link is. Good read!
