What year did Ruger switch to the black eagle from the red eagle?

The red Phoenix was the original, then they changed to black in the 50's. The red Phoenix was brought back around 2000.

Given enough time and curiosity, I am prone to do some research and I find an answer. According to Wikipedia,
'The company was founded in 1949 by Alexander McCormick Sturm and William B. Ruger and has been publicly traded since 1969.

my ffl dealer that i bought my 1st firearm from (sadly not a dealer anymore as he retired) was good friends with him. he also worked at ruger along with 1 of his son's (not ruger's) and 2 other people from my town. i have an unfinished ruger ar15 lower (i'd have to check the serial #) as it was a very early forging that my dealer gave me. the dealer and his oldest son and i were classmates. he would tell me stories about him and bill ruger.
