2023 - Year of Acquisition and Grief

2023 was an anomaly year for me in firearms purchases. I will never have a year like last again. My mother died in March after a 10 yr battle with dementia. For the last 3-4 yrs it left a shell of her physical body - no ability to speak/communicate, walk ,etc. Amazingly she survived Covid in 2019 when several others died from it in her memory care facility. Her nurse later told me - "She is the only person I've known to graduate from hospice."

Apparently my father (passed 4/10/2010) and her purchased a lot more life insurance than they needed. I am an only child. My wife and I are set up good enough for retirement with the lifestyle we both want. So in my grief and some excess life insurance money.....

I went a little ape sh*t on firearms (and tax stamp) acquisition last year. You can definitely see some nostalgia purchases there - stuff I wanted since the 1980s. And a couple items there - several of you on this forum were the enablers for those additions - Staccato and P226, etc. (you all know who you are.)

To be fair - I did sell a couple to go toward this hall.

I got guns and my wife got a major home/kitchen remodel. Remodel was at the point this week where the flooring is done (1/3 of the house is no longer concrete slab only) - so, I had the opportunity to drag out some of the collection and take some gun porn pics.

I would not share this on any other gun forum - but I've found this group to be a pretty great group of individuals (compared to a few other gun forums I've been on). You all are knowledgeable, supportive, and respectful (even in disagreement). Thank you.

Sorry about your parents passing, it’s not easy, but I know some of dementia, my sister in law is going through the early stages of this terrible disease, very nice collection!

Sorry for your losses. My sister-in-law has early onset dementia and it’s a b*tch watching her go from marathon runner to barely ambulatory and inaudible utterances. Besides Cancer, which is also from the pits of Hell, there are no more dreadful things this life has to offer.

Great collection sir. That Staccato has me twitching like a Meth Head.

Yeah - mother with dementia this year; mother-in-law glioblastoma brain tumor - died 5 years ago. My wife took care of her through the last 6+ months of her life (live-in care). That was very rough.

Labeled and sent this target (as well as one labeled "**** Dementia") down range and shot it up January 2018.

(got a visit from the range officer to make sure I was ok - :) )

Mom has dementia. I understand.

Excellent collection.
My dad has told me to buy to what I always wanted when they pass to honor them . He is a gun guy. He wants me to smile everytime I pull a gun in his memory when he passes.
His request is after he passes, I buy firearms to hand down to his grandchildren in his name. Top of line stuff. Dad likes his guns.
He’s already bought my children many fine firearms. His wish for my daughters 21st birthday is she get a Weatherby .

I know it hurts to lose parents. My FIL was a great loss, but know every time you bring out those fine firearms, you’ll smile for them
