I've gotten into the smaller punchy calibers over the years most notably the .204 Ruger. This Rem 700 in .204 is my most accurate bolt gun. 4000+ fps and absolutely no drop at 200 yards. I've used Hornady 32gr VMAX Superformance for coyotes and feral pigs.
I also went with a Savage 17HMR a few years ago, and despite its relatively cheap price, I've found it extremely accurate. Not as satisfying a trigger-pull as the .204--a 17 with a bull barrel on a lead sled is like shooting puff balls--but a fun round for precision shooting and smaller varmints.
The best small caliber pistol I've ever owned is a classic Smith & Wesson Model 48 4" .22 WMR. I love shooting this revolver, the feel of the trigger and its accuracy...it almost aims itself.
