SWAT Cop’s Perspective: Proper Room Clearing Tactics

For those of us who own a dog, that dog is going first to scan for a threat.

Fido will be off the couch or off the bed, depending on the time of day, to maul whomever is in my house. I’m fortunate I dont have to clear anything. Fido1 and Fido2 will end the threat. I’ll just wait on the police and medical examiner.

There will be no silent entry into my house by intruders. I have two German Shepards who sleep very lightly. Any intruder will have to deal with the dogs first. I will let my wife do the talking on the phone to 911. Unless a county deputy sheriff is patrolling within five miles of my place, LE help is a good 20 minutes out. While the wife is on the phone, I'll be armed and headed to investigate the blood curdling screams. Too be honest, I don't know if I will be able to get my dogs to disengage from attacking the intruder(s). My dogs play fight with each other all the time. But last week while I was outside with them, one of them got a little too rough with the other one, and it turned into a full-blown dog fight. I could not get them to obey my commands to stop or separate. And I couldn't physically stop them. They both came away from that fight very bloody. An hour later, and they were the best of friends again. I'm not so sure I would be able to stop them from mauling intruders once I have them covered with a firearm or when LE finally arrives. There won't be any need to do any room clearing in my house.

Good food for thought in this article. I would like to include that an individual most definitely needs to understand and realize the difference between and how to use each, that being - Concealment and Cover. In the article it stood out to me when describing the fella using the door frame, (Dry wall, Pine studs and trim) as cover. Just my opinion is that would be Concealment since about all modern ammo would penetrate this..I blame Hollywood because they have never seen what a weapon of any caliber does to empty 55-gallon drums.
All in all every law bidden citizen should be prepared for any and all bad scenarios.
Not a bad article and thanks for being allowed to share a bit of my opinion.
