308 Competition event coming up

October 24 is our yearly shoot out. Rule are pretty easy, 308 Winchester (bolt or AR platform) 600yds. Target is a LE blue man with a 1 inch red dot in the middle of target, its a 5 shot group timed. Sounds easy right-------wrong. Time to start practicing. I will try both the AR and my Remington 700 and see which one works better.
 
You can use optics and reload its a open class. The only rule are have to use a 308 winchester/ 762x51 in a AR or bolt action rifle. Just got back from the range. Looks like I'm going with the Remington 700. I'll post picture in few hours, it was hot out there.
 
Practiced all day with the AI 308. Got the groups tighter using the 168gr over 150gr bullets. That little 1" red dot is hard to see at 600yds. I know I need to post the picture of the AI 308.
 
Started with a Accuracy International chassis, build on a short action Remington 700. The barrel is a Kreiger 1:11 25.5 long with 308 match. Palma 1995 spec. Match grade trigger adjusted to 3.0lbs.

No one likes my rifle :cry: Well less then a week before the event (this Sunday) they change the rules. Now its 500yds from 600yds, members started complaining about the distances and using a part of the range with no roof. So it was change this morning to 500yds. That's ok because I been practicing at 500yds for most the time. There only one slot for 600yds and 10 for 500yds and the 500yd is modern with all the goodies. Here's a picture of mag load from the 308 at 500yds.

the only part on that rifle that's is Remington 700 is the receiver.
  1. Terminus complete bolt 4340 chrome moly with 3 lugs
  2. Terminus complete firing pin with all spring
  3. Dual pin recoil lug mounting point for the Accuracy International chassis
  4. Terminus firing pin with spring.
