45 Rowland

Condition1

Master Class
Anyone on here have a 45 Rowland? That cartridge has been eating at me for a couple years now. I want to buy another 1911 and build it into a 45 Rowland. The only reason is I want one which is good enough for me. That round is supposed to give 44 magnum Proformance out of a 1911. The only thing is it’s not just the gun and a barrel it’s reloading dies, bullet mold, sizing dies, brass and probably a couple other things I’m not thinking of. None of the jacketed bullets are going to stay together. Pushing a bullet that’s meant to work at 850fps and you’re pushing it to 14-1500fps. We have black bear around here but a good hit with a 9mm will kill a 300 pound black bear. I’m trying to talk myself into spending the money while trying to talk myself out of spending the money. And then there’s the heavy barrel 300 winmag I’m wanting to build but I would have to drive 100 miles one way to have a place to shot it. Now talk me out of doing either one of those.

If you pursue, I’d suggest getting the kit from Clark’s Custom Guns. They are probably the leading “sponsor” of the Rowland platform out there today.

I’ve handled a few Rowland conversions over the years … a Springfield Armory and an Hk USP so converted. Wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. I have a 4506 set up that runs 45 Super.
I have since dropped back to just a standard 45ACP and +P, does all I can really ask of a semiautomatic platform.

If I need more umpff I’ve got other tools at my disposal.

About 20 years ago I got to shoot a 1911 in 460 Rowland. As I recall, I wasn't real impressed by it. At least I never bothered to pursue it any further. Its seems to have fallen by the wayside these days. There's usually a reason for that.
I think you would be better served with a 10mm. Guns and ammo are readily available. ;)

Same could be said for the 357sig, but I'll choose it over 9x19 any day. If you have a variety it let's you shoot knowledge
