Hey!

It's a slow Sunday afternoon so I decided to play a little with some new gear that came in for my 686 Plus. Just for fun I wanted to change the grip so I swapped a VZ Grips unit. For some fun at the range I ordered a Western drop holster and cartridge belt from Hunter Company.

I like shooting this beast. Perhaps the grips will let me shoot a little better.

I actually read the instructions, even before I pulled off the old grips.

I had thought it would be a quick off and on. But you actually have to fiddle with a pin at the top on the inside of the right grip in order to get a tight fit on the frame.

I ended up using the second hole on the inside top of the right grip. There was no wobble. Then I moved the long pin to the hole behind the trigger guard and inserted the short pin inside the grip. Then I tightened up the assembly with a T15 driver.

I unpacked my Buscadero kit and tried it on for size. The holster will take a while to break in. I really had to shove the six inch barrel all the way in.

Maybe I could've ordered the next size smaller. I'm using the next-to-the-last belt hole.

I guess it will be OK. I've got room to grow. ;)

This holster and belt are OK, they will get the job done. It's decent quality for the price. I'm hoping as it breaks in it will lay better on my hip and the revolver will draw easier. Right now it's very tight. I'll leave the pistol in the holster to help fitment.

I don't plan on this being a practical rig, just a conversation piece at the range. Maybe it can be part of a costume at Halloween. It's legal to open carry here. ;)

And that's how I spent part of my Sunday afternoon. Thanks for putting up with me.

Hi guys,

I really like the way rosewood grips look. I wouldn’t want to shoot a lot of 357 with them on though.

Yeah, those big Hogue rosewood grips are beautiful, very tempting. Maybe I should pick up some .38 Special for those days I want to take it easy.

did these just come out..??

cuz i got rid of my 686+ a couple, maybe 3 years ago, due to the trigger guard cutting into my fingers......

wish i had known about this if they have been around back then......

I think VZ and Hogue have been making these grips for a good while. But a lot of this stuff is still new to this old noob. ;)

I'll have to wait until next week to try my new grips at the range. The gun feels good in my hand, fills my palm better than the original grips, checkering is grippy without being too aggressive. I'm wondering if I'm going to miss the rubber grips. The G10 material is kinda hard. :p

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
