9mm vs. 40 – Is the .40 Caliber a Better Handgun Cartridge?

1911s do not like hollow points, none Ive ever shot did, including the one I carry. Also get that second FTF.
We stopped op4 forward advancement with 45ACP ball.

The 357 mag was called the man stopper. It did too good of a job.

9 is under powered and 10 is over powered. Now your back to the 9 vs 40.

I would never carry either the 9 or the 40 and have fired both.
Sorry, that opening statement is utter hogwash.

1911’s do just fine with hollow points; point of fact, my Baer came with an accuracy guaranteee with two different types; both (plus several others) functioned just fine with it.

I’ve had several other 1911’s from Colt, Springfield, Rock Island Armory, even ParaOrdnance that did so as well.

It is a…let’s go with “woefully uninformed”…opinion that 9 is underpowered and 10 overpowered. There’s really no better way to put it.

.357 Magnum is magic, unless in an Airweight J-frame. Then it’s magical pain.

So it comes back to 9v.40; they both have advantages and disadvantages, based on multiple factors including platform and shooter ability.

Carry whatever you like.

My $300 Filipino Charles Daly will run HSTs all day long.

Sorry I messed up. I did not mean the 1911, I was referring to my P220.
Ive never shot anything but 230 FMJ thru many 1911s. Have not shot one since Raygun was in office.

Sorry for the screwed up post. I was tired.
So change the 1911 to P220.

Got in an argument with a guy that claimed a 9mm with +P ammo was just as effective as a 10mm with full power ammo is against dangerous game namely a bear.

Given good shot placement, he's right. 10mm just lets you be a little more off with placement and still get similar results.

Yeah, no.

Owned 4 P220’s in my time; all the way from a W. German stamped slide to a Legion. Also had a P245, for good measure.

All ran JHP’s with aplomb.
