I took a buddy on his first "hunt" yesterday. We were after Meat Hogs at The Wilderness, a game preserve in western Pa. My buddy is an amputee but mobile on crutches. Hes a gun guy but never hunted. The Wilderness is a nice place. Its a High Fence preserve with game from Exotics to Meat Hogs on a 5000 acre facility.
Our guide drove us through the preserve until we spotted some pigs. They halted the vehicle and let him get out and get ready. He dropped his pig with one shot from a 6.5 Creedmoor. I followed up on a Russian Red boar from my double gun. As we were hunting the pigs I spotted a couple Red Stags, a bunch of Rams, and even a Buffalo.
Ive had more exciting hunts and been charged; but for his first hunt for him, we had a pretty good outcome. After the kill the guide dressed and skinned the pigs then split them for packing in our coolers. They offer local butchering but we elected to bring the meat back to a local butcher. 'Cant wait for the bacon.
