A Tale of Two Calibers

Super nice result! But I’m biased toward almost anything .44 Spl.

I almost didn’t read it because I had read the earlier 544 conversion article and thought that’s what was linked.

Not sure I’d spend the money on such a conversion, but an interesting article nonetheless. Thanks for sharing.

The 44Spl…..always seems to me to be the answer in search of its problem.

I love the .44 Special because it trims the fat off the sidearm. One rarely needs the increased power of the .44 Magnum. So why not trim the barrel profile and lighten the platform when you really are shooting .44 Special loads thru your magnum? Or better yet from a carry standpoint, drop down from the Smith and Wesson N frame to the L frame for a five shot .44 Special? Loaded with .44 Special wadcutters from Underwood, you get a 200 grain 1000 FPS defensive load that is easy to control and hits with authority.

Harder to hide than a J Frame of course, but the L Frame still vanishes in an inside the waistband holster and is VERY easy to shoot compared to a J Frame. I really should carry this more often.
