Dear Recusant,
Election Day has passed, and unfortunately the anti-gun Left came out on top.
Virginia lost 13 seats of the House of Delegates to anti-gun Democrats, elected an Attorney General who previously advocated for violence toward a republican representative and his children, and voted for a Governor & Lieutenant Governor who stand in line with billionaire backed anti-gun organizations.
We're incredibly disappointed in the results, and we're standing with you in the aftermath.
Our organization is based right here in Springfield, Virginia and myself and many others at GOA raise their families and have made their livelihoods in this state.
There is a path forward, but it's going to require determination and persistence from every GOA member in Virginia.
With the General Assembly convening on January 14th, 2026, here’s what we’re facing…
First, legislation pre-filing begins on November 17; we will keep track of any bills that aim to dismantle our Second Amendment, and share them with you as soon as possible. It's important that we stay informed, standing ready to share a clear vocal opposition to these bills.
Second, our friends at the Virginia Citizens Defense League will be holding their annual Lobby Day on January 19, 2026.
Lobby day is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our physical presence and utmost importance of gun rights issues to the politicians of Richmond. We will be in attendance of this event, and we encourage you to make arrangements to do the same. You can find more information about this opportunity by visiting the VCDL website.
Finally, the bottom line is that Gun Owners of America is no compromise. We will not stand idly by when these newly-elected politicians attempt to trample on our God-given natural rights. We want to make clear that we will continue to do whatever possible to legislatively and judicially oppose any gun control in this state.
We have seen great success in our efforts thanks to your support.
Just over the past couple of months, we successfully challenged and deconstructed Universal Background Checks and firearm purchase quantity restrictions in this state; this isn't the end of our efforts, and it isn't the end for Virginia gun rights.
The takeaway from this election should be motivation. We need to be motivated to be present in our elections, to be vocal towards the issues that we value, and to be ready to challenge and push back when our freedoms are under attack.
Another key lesson from this election is that Republicans don’t win by acting like Democrats. Attorney General Jason Miyares began the race with momentum—polls showed him even or ahead—thanks to his opponent's outrageous remarks about Republicans. But he lost ground with his base.
Why? Because gun owners were frustrated that Miyares defended gun control in court and ignored their concerns, and yet he still expected their votes. Some voters even turned out to support Winsome Sears, but not him. The Second Amendment drives the GOP base, and when the party forgets that, gun owners deliver the reminder on Election Day.
The results of this election are a setback, but not a defeat. Virginia has a long and proud history of standing for liberty, and that spirit is far from gone. Together, we will continue to defend freedom, protect our rights, and remind every politician in Richmond that the Second Amendment is not up for negotiation.
