A Valid Tactic? The Iraqi Reload

For AK users, one of the AK quirks is the lack of a last-round bolt hold open. After you fire the last round, the bolt slams back forward. Combine that with a right-side charging handle, and it makes reloading a bit slow compared to an AR-15 series rifle.

The "Iraqi Reload" seems to be an attempt to work around the awkward ergonomics and downfalls of the AK platform.

Hi,

Yeah, that's weird. I've also seen shooters swap the mag, tilt the rifle 90° counter clockwise, rotating the charging handle to the top, and rack it with their left hand. I'm going to install a Krebs safety to help quicken my AK reloads.

This part will hold the bolt back after the last round. At least that's the plan. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

This seems like a case of trying to make the AK run like a AR. Short of living in a AK centric world (Middle East, Afrika, and eastern Europe), I cant imagine why anyone would run an AK. YES they are cool guns and yes I own more than my fair share; but place yourself in the eyes of a Cop responding to a shooting scene and one guy has a AK...whos the Bad Guy?

All that being said, back in the 80s the WEST Germans used to load two tracersin the mag first then ball ammo; so as they were shooting, when they saw the tracers, they knew a reload was coming.

You run the AK until its empty then swop mags. Im doubtful that anyone actually issued a AK does any silly youtube reloads.

You're going to get the same level of attention from a LEO responding to a shooting scene (aka an "incident") and the officer sees you standing there holding an AR or any other firearm.

Just sayin...
