Adjusting Recoil Impulse in Steel Frame Pistols

Velocity is no match for recoil impulse. And once you start to tune for impulse, not speed, everything changes.

Steel Frames Don’t Lie. Polymer guns mask a lot. They flex. They absorb. They’re forgiving. Steel-frame pistols are honest. They provide immediate feedback for you.

On a 1911, in addition to the recoil spring, the Mainspring, Hammer shape and firing pin stop can also change the felt recoil and sight recovery.

Adding a Dot sight's weight to the slide can change the recoil impulse and may require a change to main spring and / or recoils spring.

(Most 22 LR conversions for 1911s recommend an 18 - 19 pound mainspring)

Cammer hammer
Reduce the force required to rack your slide by as much as 31% while still using standard, full strength recoil springs and mainsprings—with the simple installation of the Cammer Hammer.

i ain't gonna get too technical

1) i feel nearly all the recoil in all my polymer guns, and take longer to reacquire my target

2) i feel very little recoil in all my all metal guns, and take nearly no time at all to reacquire my target.
