Aimtech ASM3 for Mossberg 500

Has anyone used one of these? I have an older 500 that isn't drilled and tapped and this unit installs using the trigger pin and upper receiver pin. I haven't seen any bad reviews, but I'm not at all sure about the reliability of these types of mounts.

According to what I read in the link you provided it uses pins that are threaded instead of just punched in so as long as the fit of the mount on the receiver is solid without a lot of play it should work fine.
 
Yeah, apparently the provided screws replace the trigger pin and the upper receiver pin.

I think I'd prefer to have the receiver drilled and tapped, but so far the two local smiths (One of whom is Midwest Gun Works) I contacted say they won't do it. I'm not sure why.
