These events make us angry and make us think about the most awful punishments commensurate with the crime. The 8th Amendment prohibiting cruel and unusual punishment is thank God still in play. I will be satisfied if he is locked away for life. What astounds me is these savages running around on bond or probation, free to re-offend. There is no guarantee in the U.S. Constitution to bond or to probation. The 8th Amendment only guarantees if bond is set, it is not an excessive amount. We need to be better at classifying violent offenders and keeping them locked up as long as the law allows
 
Well written and very well thought out, @HayesGreener.

I believe there are many more factors than most people will see, not the least of which is the county attorney and staff. These people are charged with the prosecution of bad guys, but they also have limited availability of funds, limited thinking jurors, and limited jail space that can be used to house them.

People will say building more beds, or such, that is a possibility. But, how high do you want your taxes to rise?

I don't have the answer to the problems, if I did, Elon Musk wouldn't be the only trillionaire.

YES you are correct. Im still OK with public executions.

Yep no right to bail; but then look at all the states that have NO CASH BAIL and judges that give sentences saying "Im sure he wont do it again" (thats what the judge said when he sentenced the Sovereign Citizen who stabbed me, and gave the guy "Time Served").

Cypress Kroger shooting suspect arrested, charged with aggravated assault​

A 20-year-old was identified as the gunman in the shooting at a Cypress Kroger on Wednesday, according to Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman's office.
Kaden Ausbrooks was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury in the shooting, which took place at 20355 Cypresswood Drive, according to Herman's office. Witnesses said they saw a man fire a weapon inside the Kroger, and deputies responded at around 2:50 p.m.

The Colonel was exactly right. If even 1/2 the time when 2 legged animals pull this crap they would immediately get capped by their would be victim you can bet the number of BS incidents would drop by an order of magnitude. Most of these vermin are basically cowards-big and tough when they’re larger/stronger than a victim or when armed-substantially less so when their precious butt is looking down the barrel. I’ve seen numerous body cam clips where Billy bad*** shoots at cops but when THEY get the drop on him it’s all “don’t shoot me”.
