America’s Flaming Bayonet in World War I

I think the Winchester shotgun was a better close-quarter weapon: The primary shotgun used by American forces in World War I was the Winchester Model 1897, commonly known as the "trench gun". It was a 12-gauge, pump-action shotgun equipped with a perforated metal heat shield and a bayonet lug. Due to its effectiveness in close-quarters trench fighting, the German government formally protested its use in September 1918, calling it a "barbaric weapon". [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

1 of my kids got banned for the supposed use of the marty, but he was cooking the grenade when he got shot. the marty was 1 of those that server didn't allow the use of
Those were fun to use, I also got real good sneaking up behind others and slicing them with my knife, or I would get as close as I could and throw a nade at them point blank……lol

97 was capable of firing when the trigger was held back and the action pumped.
I’m thinking it’d be tough to use a bayonet against anybody are with a 97. Remember that way back the European nations used the bayonet as “the” offensive weapons. Troops lined up50-75 yards apart, fired a volley and charged with the bayonet-which became the decisive weapons. Longer range (civil war) and repeating rifles (Spanish American war) significantly reduced the actual employment. Today, with modern auto rifles the bayonet is a scary thing to face, but practical use has faded (what are the odds of you and the other guy both running out of ammo at exactly the same time? And if one has ammo, why get close enough for a pig sticker?
