SIG Sauer just announced United States Special Operation Command (USSOCOM) completed a safety certification and purchase of the SIG MG 338 Machine Gun. The certification includes SIG Sauer 338 Norma Mag Ammunition and Next Generation Suppressors. SIG also stated it has completed deliveries of multiple systems, comprised of MG 338 Machine Guns, ammunition and suppressors.

It's a GPMG-class like the M240. The new M250 (that fires the 6.5x61 CC like the new XM7) is an LMG.

Only a couple companies in America qualify to make high quality LMG’s, so the high quality talent pool is pretty narrow

USSOCOM doesn't play those games. All they care about is the ability to kill the enemy and they will procure weapons that work. The M250 already seems successful. I suspect if the .338 MG is proven in combat with Special Warfare big Army will adopt it. Lethality at range will be the name of the game in future wars.

SIG builds quality weapons and they are manufactured in the USA. I just hope they can maintain their standards of quality with such rapid growth of their line.

Soldiers across the force are beginning to field the M250 Automatic Rifle, part of the Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon program and designed to replace the legacy M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW).

Instructors from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) are helping introduce Soldiers to the new system—sharing lessons from competition shooting to improve combat marksmanship, weapon handling, and lethality.

By working alongside operational units, USAMU helps ensure Soldiers understand how to effectively employ new weapons like the M250 as they enter service across the Army.
