Another "orphan" saved from a safe

Okay, so last week my dopamine level tanked and, in a weak moment while poking around on gun sites (I really should know better, but..), I procured an FNS 9C. It was listed as used and in excellent condition. Now, I know how some of you feel about used guns, and I know the crap shoot it can be. You never know what you're gonna get. I own a few FNs now and, while they each have their own idiosyncrasies, for the most part I do like how they shoot and feel in my hand. In my own humble opinion I think I did really well with the 509, once it was cleaned up. It's broken in and shoots like a dream. I liken it to giving an orphan a home.

I paid $349 for the pistol, two mags and a nice little case. Probably more than I should have, but hey...whatever. I know it is a discontinued firearm so aftermarket parts will be hard to find, but after talking with my gunsmith, he told me not to worry about it, he can make things work. So I bought it. It is a purdy gun. No holster wear, no cosmetic wear anywhere. I broke it down and it was so clean, I don't think it was ever fired.

Well, this FN product has THE. WORST. trigger I have ever felt. It was so gritty that I couldn't tell where the wall was at all. Once I started firing it though, it ran fine, no issues except that the slide didn't lock into place after the last round from the 17 round magazine. No biggie really. I think it would be a good carry gun eventually, but only after the trigger is replaced. I am open for suggestions on that.
The first few shots went way low and left, mainly because I was getting over the shock at how bad the trigger was. Once I "got it" it was manageable. The recoil is very manageable and if you take away the :poop: trigger, it could be fun to shoot. So now the search is on for a replacement trigger so I can really let loose with this pistol, see what it's made of.

I probably won't fire it again until I do a trigger swap, but no promises there as I like living on the edge sometimes 😊😎.

Nice Bella, nothing wrong with buying a used gun, I've bought a few in my time. I own the FNS 9C myself, but I must inform you there is a recall on the FNS which did affect mine. I've include their notice in the link below on the issue description and how to check the serial number if it's part of the recall. Even if yours is part of this recall, I'd check with FN to see if it might have already been corrected. Good luck and hope you enjoy it. (y)

Hi @belladonna,

Congrats on the new unit! Once you get it tweaked to your standards I'm sure you'll really enjoy it. I've been seriously considering a new trigger for one of my used purchases, the XD45 Tactical. That trigger is nothing but mush, but at least it's smooth. I've got a few others that I've bought used, haven't been disappointed yet. Nice job on your first target.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thanks BET. I couldn't get the serial number search link to work at all, so I sent FN an email.
