Grok knows:
The weapon in the image is an anti-drone gun, likely used to disrupt drone communications by jamming frequencies such as 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, as noted in a 2024 People’s Project article on drone-fighting technologies.
The guards are at Pope Francis' funeral, an event with heightened security due to the presence of 170 heads of state and 250,000 attendees, as reported by the BBC on April 25, 2025.
Anti-drone measures at the Vatican reflect evolving security threats, a concern since the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II, with experts noting the Vatican’s challenges in adapting to modern risks like drones, per a 2015 USA Today report.

Anti-Drone Rifles/Guns:
• Description: Portable electromagnetic pulse devices that disrupt drone navigation and communication, causing them to crash.
• Status: Widely used, especially by police and military forces.
• Examples:
• EDM4S (Ukraine): Used to down Russian drones like the Eleron-3.
• Australian Queensland Police: Deployed anti-drone guns with a 3 km range during the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
• Advantages: Portable, cost-effective, and non-lethal.
• Limitations: Short range (typically 1-3 km) and limited to electronic targets.

Several years ago before I retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons we started having issues with drones dropping contraband on rec yards (usually drugs at night)

When they talked about using the early anti drone guns at the time there was some government minutiae and some serious government restrictions (even agencies don’t make it easy to work with each other). But something about the FCC had to be involved and approved because of the frequency used at the time.

I wasn’t involved so I don’t know if all the specifics of when how or why it there was some silliness.

They did through the FAA develop no drone fly zones over federal prisons but I retired 5 years ago so not sure what they do now if they have expanded anythjng.

I hear Florida has legislation pending that would essentially allow citizens to “shoot down” drones?
Anyone know more and care to elaborate?
maybe that has to do if the drone is flying over or hovering over your property, as in "invading your air space"..???

and you have a right to privacy..???
