Last night I was going through the safe and found a couple guns that I had all but forgotten. One still had the hang tag from Red Jacket Firearms
Back before the TV show, Red Jacket Firearms was a small Class 3 shop. They did some really nice work at reasonable prices. I bought a AMD65 (SBR) from him for, I think $400. That was just the beginning of the stuff I got from them....Then the TV show was his downfall.
One day I walked in to my local shop just to say "hey" and ATF was there. The dealer said, "These guys want to talk to you." I was in uniform and a bit worried they were there for me. I wasnt in trouble; but it seems Red Jacket had made me 3 SBRs for me and sent them to my shop...but forgot to get permission to SBR them. Actually AFT wasnt too pissed, they just had my guy send them back and approved the manufacture paperwork really quick. Instead of the normal 6 month paperwork time, those guns took 14 months.
The problem was, he went from X amount of orders a month before the TV show to XXXXXXXXXXXXX and paperwork slipped through the process. First ATF took his license but they put it in the daughters name. The problems continued and the daughter lost the license, and it got put in her husbands name (of ITS A CANNON fame)...wait for it...and he lost it. Last I heard it got put in another employees name. The TV show was making them popular and they couldnt keep up.
Then of course there was the incidents with his family life...we can discuss that if you like but maybe its not necessary. I wont try to condone any of his activities but the man could bend metal
